Win 5,000 Business Cards from YGG and Orange32 ($400 value)

YGG and Orange32 Business Card Contest

They make it easy to introduce yourself to strangers, help them remember your name, make you look bigger than you actually are, and certify the fact that you own your own business. These are business cards of course, an essential part of every entrepreneur’s toolkit.

From the dozens, hundreds, or thousands of cards that have passed through your hands over the years, chances are you can only recall several at most. If they weren’t your standard one-sided logo/text templates from Kinko’s, they may resemble the awful era of bevel and gradient madness from back in 2000.

It could be worse, I guess. You could have no business cards at all. Scribbling on napkins at events gets tired after a while.

The part where I get to the point

Whether your cards are an eyesore, or are running low, or you don’t have any, this is where YGG and Orange32 step in, with our first official contest.

We’ve partnered with Orange32, the nicest creative and print shop we’ve ever met, to give away a prize pack worth over $400. This package includes:

New YGG family member and half-off ad sale

Written by: Travis  |  Category: Happenings

You pick the half

When you don’t have enough time to focus on selling ads, what do you do? Shut down your site and cry. Or, hire an Advertising Sales Director. We’re more than pleased to welcome Courtney to the team. She happens to be the fiance of one of our long-time members, Justin Nowak, and a very interesting gal. You can read a bit more about her on our About page and see her little headshot.

We’re still working on setting her up with all the e-mail, management, and sales tools she needs. It’ll be another week or so before you see some more action from her.

This happy announcement made us feel all generous, and giving, and stuff. So we figured we might as well use some of Eric’s car sales tactics, and WE’RE GIVING HALF OFF ALL ADS UNTIL THE END OF SEPTEMBER. Yes, that’s right folks, one of the fastest growing entrepreneurial blogs with one of the nicest communities behind it, has lost their minds. We even have one of those inflatable gorillas on each of our roofs. Such a shame you can’t see them.

Those lovely image ads you see in the sidebar are now only $90/month until September 30th. We figured the Text Link Ads should go on sale as well, so we’re selling our own SEO links for only $25/month until September 30th.

If you’re interested in advertising on YGG and want to snap up one of the spots, send an e-mail to hello (at) younggogetter (dot) com, or use our contact form.

Juxtaviews returns the love, and features some of your faces

Written by: Travis  |  Category: Happenings

Trippy, eh?

They had asked us several months back to play the role of an interviewee, we accepted, and completely forgot about it. Kevin approached me again, and we finally made it happen.

He sent over a list of great questions, I replied with my usual lengthy responses, and even recorded an audio version for all the lazy folk. (Click the mp3 if you want to listen, not the player, or else I sound a bit like Hulk).

Kevin and Juxtaviews have one of the nicest formats for interviews and go all out in presentation. I think it looks awesome, and I was honoured to be interviewed. As we’ve said before, we love thier site.

Alright, enough ass kissin’. Check it out, share your comments, and take a look at some of our submitted YGG logos that made the interview. We’d still love to have a ton more featured here, so print out your little YGG sign, snap a pic, and send it in.

(Thanks to Kevin for creating the base of that trippy image above)

Happy Belated 2nd Birthday YGG

Written by: Travis  |  Category: Happenings

Creepy Elmo

Wow, time sure flies. August 1st was the exact two year marker since Young Go Getter was first created by Eric. I’ve been a member since that day and a partner for a little over a year.

What began as just a phpBB forum, then morphed into a horror-show of iframes (I already apologized, back off!), finally became the Wordpress/Vanilla mashup you’ve come to love.

It’ll be interesting to look back on YGG a year from today as we reach triple digits (inside Flight of the Conchords joke). I know it won’t look anything like it does today, but I haven’t the slightest clue what it will look like. Let’s worry about that when the time comes.

So to all of the unbelievable readers, members, and supporters of YGG, two cheers to helping us stay above water for over 700 days and motivating us to keep at it.

That’s right creepy Elmo. Yahoo. We’re 2.

Quick note: New Directory is up

Written by: Travis  |  Category: Happenings

From the feedback we got in the Forum, it was time for an upgrade to the Directory. So I spent the morning building a new direction for it, and went with the gallery format instead of a tag cloud.

We were just looking to give you a reason to drop by there every now and then, and make it easier to view and visit the sites. In my opinion, it looks a helluva lot better.

All of the dead sites were weeded out, and we encourage anyone that would like to be featured in the Directory to take a moment, register in our forum, and we’ll add it for you.

Have your mug featured on YGG

Written by: Travis  |  Category: Happenings

Aniston Mug

As I said yesterday, we want to try some new things to increase the interaction and participation here at YGG. One of the ideas I came up with last week was to let the face(s) of our community be the face of our community, literally.

See that mysterious fella’ in the top right corner holding a YGG sign? Yes, that is in fact me, but I’m getting a little sick of myself.

So here’s my idea: shoot a creative picture of yourself holding a YGG sign (see below) and we’ll feature it as our logo. We’ll rotate through all of the submissions so a different young go getter appears each time you view a page.

Maybe we’ll even pick the most creative picture each month and send you a prize.

Being that we tend to be featured in quite a few galleries and articles, depending on who’s pic shows up when the screenshot is taken, you could permanently have your glorious face in some of the popular galleries. That’s D-list stardom right there, baby.

YGG will be a little kooky for a bit

Written by: Travis  |  Category: Happenings

We’ve received a few e-mails this morning saying that the forum has been prompting people for a password and looks a bit strange. We’re working on fixing some pretty significant bugs and transferring YGG to a dedicated server at Media Temple.

So we’ll be off and on for most of the day, but everything should be back to normal tomorrow.

Thanks for your concern, and step outside for some fresh air, you YGG addicts! :)
