10 Sales and Marketing Tips I learned from Strippers
There are plenty of numbered how-to lists about marketing, monetization, and just about everything else you can think of. But how many are there that involve strippers?

Carlos Ulloa’s Portofolio
One of the most interestingly simple interactive executions I’ve seen in a while. Use your keyboard to control a three-dimensional car that looks like nothing more than a header image on his website.

Can we measure the health of communities?
Measuring the health (success) of a community is key in determining it’s future direction. Miss Rogue shares some of her notes from FOO Camp and the insights contained within them about communities.

Video: Watch James Dyson Dry His Hands
The man behind the World’s most expensive vacuum, shares a sneak peek video of the soon to be World’s most expensive hand dryer. Coming to a bathroom you’ll never be rich enough to excuse yourself in, no time soon.

Dell adds a little colour
It’s been done by Sony, Apple, and a few others, but I still think this’ll result in a nice bump in sales for Dell. Their notebooks are now available in 8 different colours.

Fruit Crate Art
Before Photoshop existed and packaging was managed by marketing executives who knew more about coffee than they do art, labels for fruit were beautiful illustrations fit for a gallery.

Kinda says it all…
Something big was happening this past week. I think it may have been on Friday. But I can’t quite remember exactly what it was…

Generic Company Names Get Lost in Web Searches
When generic URLs used to fetch millions of dollars, and still fetch quite a bit, the hype was about getting a name that covered an entire industry. Maybe Cats.com or Cars.com. But it seems niches and specific terms have taken over and those big investments or worthless in the game of SEO.

Miles Rug
Last but not least, a piece of decoration that your kids will one day love, and the child within you can enjoy until that day comes.

Pownce Invites… Get’em & Share Here.

Pownce

What is it?
Pownce is a way to send messages, files, links, and events to your friends. You’ll create a network of the people you know and then you can share stuff with all of them, just a few of them, or even just one other person really fast.

Leave your email in a comment below. I’ll invite you and then you invite the 3 people below you…

EDIT by Travis: I didn’t even see Darius’ post here. I’m losing it. So my post is deleted and I’ll share the remainder of my invites to any commentors in this post.

For all the Guitar Hero fans

Miniclip

This is one of the best adaptations of a console game I’ve seen in a while. Simplified to the point where anyone can play, and as equally addictive as the infamous Guitar Hero.

It’s called Up Beat, and will consume a good portion of your pre-long weekend energy. Take a break from work for a bit and test the accuracy and endurance of your thumb through pinky.

How many of you Joost invitees are actually still using it?

Joost

Nearly two months ago, we offered Joost invites to anyone that wanted one. Nearly 200 comments were posted and well over 100 invites were sent out.

My initial experience with Joost was interesting, and I was taken back by the hype. But I haven’t used it since then and don’t really care.

So I’m wondering, for anyone that got an invite…….do you use still Joost and how often?

We love Retail Me Not

RetailMeNot.com - Coupon codes

All too often, usually right before we hit the “pay now” button, we find ourselves ransacking search engines hoping to find a coupon code saving us a few bones on that Threadless T, order of biz cards, domain name, or Text Link Ad. It’s usually hit and miss, and often times the search engines aren’t as relevant as we’d like.

Enter RetailMeNot. The search doesn’t get any easier, just type in the URL of the store you’re shopping at and boom, a list of all known codes and their success rate. Saving a $1.32 just got a whole lot easier.

How often do you shave your yak? (if you know what I mean)

YakI think quite a few young go getters would admit to having a bit of ADD to some degree. But how many of you would admit to being Yak Shavers?

From Wikipedia:

“Yak shaving is a neologism which describes the act of performing seemingly unrelated and often annoying tasks which stand in the way of an ultimate goal. Often these tasks stack up on each other, where one task becomes impossible due to some obstacle, which leads to another unrelated task, yet another obstacle, and so on.”

So, are you a Yak Shaver?

Life’s a bitch…for some people

“Some people” doesn’t include Larry Page. Let me tell ya, if I had a helicopter, you’d be hard pressed to find it at a nerdcamp helipad :)

You know you’ve made it when someone wants a clone of your clone

As some of you may know, one of the other websites I own is The Ad Feed. I’ve been working my ass off when I can, building the new version of the site and resurrecting it.

I had to collect some data a moment ago to get an idea of where I stand, and came across a listing on Get A Coder, from only a couple weeks after I launched the site. The title of the listing is “RSS Parser - Clone Of Theadfeed”

Had they looked at the footer of my site, they would have seen a link for the open-source, completely free, application that powers it, and saved the $100 or so they were looking to pay for cloning my popURLs clone. Surprisingly enough, I get an e-mail every other week or so from all over the world, asking if I could help them build a site like mine.

Oh well. Still feels good to see The Ad Feed being referenced as original. Yippee!

And you thought $25 for FluffyBunnySlippers.com was expensive

Fluffy Bunny SlippersDomains have been a common topic of discussion lately in the forums. Some young go getters have shelled out the value of a tasty lunch to grab a catchy URL. But our acquisitions are chump change compared to an auction that took place yesterday in New York.

T.R.A.F.F.I.C. is an enormous gathering for the domain elite to buy and sell the URLs we all wish we had thought of back in ’96.

Some of the bigger auctions included:

This post will contain one image, 110 words, and positively reference 37signals

Jason Fried

Yesterday, the Chicago whiz-kids known as 37signals, wrote one of their better posts in years, in my opinion. Restrictions and guidelines are essential in directing your creative. With many young go getters working in the realm of the internet, we’ve become accustomed to a wide-open medium.

Virtually everything works on everyone’s computers nowadays (flash, ajax), screen resolutions vary from 800×600 up to 1920×1200, enormous applications are now browser based, and content management systems like WordPress and Drupal enable you to create unlimited types of websites.

But I don’t need to rehash the 37signals post. Read about their experience when developing for the iPhone and it’s restrictions, here.
