Hello fellow entrepreneurs! My name is Monte’ and I along with a few others have created a way to overcome the obstacles of starting a business. No bull, I completely got frustrated with having ideas and no time or money to make them go! I/We created a company to solve this problem — that’s right WE got together –. Check our concept out at http://www.collaborativenewventures.com.

I want to prove the power of collaboration is alive and well and we are doing it? Check it out and tell me what you think.

Great site, just checked it out! How did you come up with the idea?

      • OneMind · 3 weeks, 4 days ago

Hey Justin, I realized that I had ideas but I could not get them going because I was too busy at the day job. I needed to be able to focus on the idea. I needed money, but loans require proof of concept before getting funding and VC’s want control and are very very selective.

So I said, why not get few people with the same idea and desire to make more money by starting a business and create a structure that allows us to focus on the idea. That’s when CNV was born. I said if we can pool our ideas, money, and expertise and then fund/commission of small team of us to work on the idea FULL TIME (instead when I get home from work), we could get something going.

The more and more I thought and talked to others, we had something big… The more people we had, the larger our funding base could grow. The funding engine grows because we keep our day jobs and leverage those funds to grow our own company. The small group working on the idea get our expertise and does not have to worry about living expense and can focus. We can even start to fund outside ideas once we reach the appropriate size. Anyway, you can see it is working we have nearly 25 members. We are anticipating needing to cap the number of members as some point, but not now… So the more the merrier!

    I have one for you…

I’ve owned business in the past [most recently in real estate] but got out of that sector (full time) back in 2007, just as the market was diminishing. This is when I went back to corporate America. Don’t worry, because even as an employee I have an entrepreneurial mindset- so I operate as my own business unit. My learnings from running my own businesses have taken my business maturity to the next level, giving me a vast advantage over my peers.

Working corporate American (notice I didn’t say ”working-in”) provides me with a few things that I really do appreciate at the current time: great compensation with minimal risk, flexible work hours (I work from home and from the office), exposure to high level contacts in major corporations and everyday is a challenge, and the ability to be creative in ”running my business”.

I’m not at a average person’s level, in terms of drive…but I want to note that I’ve set up my situation, and positioned myself into having the job luxuries described above with well thought out and calculated strategy.

Just recently I started up HustlersNotebook.com, which launched July 2010. It’s been a hell of a run for me, learning the development side, while trying to get solid content up - but I love the challenge. My main goal with the site is to help others. My monetary expectations at this point are not high, but in the long run I have some ideas up my sleeve.

I really enjoy helping people and watching folks get a kick out of my hustler’s perspective on things. I have a fundamentally street smart approach which overrides the college education I’ve acquired. My passion for helping others is what sparked me to start up the website blog. I know that’s counter intuitive in the blogging game, but it is what it is.

If you have any suggestive comments for me, let me know.

I really like the site, some interesting articles on there including ”6 Core Values of a Hustler”

And I agree that street smarts give you more of an edge than education once you are already in the company. Having been there before is the best teacher. It is just nice to have that piece of paper from university as it opens so many doors for you.

And last but not least WELCOME to YGG!

There are some awesome free tools such as SugarCRM and premium tools like SalesForce for client management, but what other tools are out there, and what’s best for a startup?

    Post your ideas here!

It may sound crazy but I used to keep a customer list and follow up information in an excel spreadsheet!

      • Clayton McIlrath · 4 months, 2 weeks ago

That doesn’t sound crazy at all. I did the same thing in Google docs when I first started out. Time consuming, but effective and best of all NO LEARNING CURVE

        • Justin · 4 months, 2 weeks ago

Excel is timeless. I love it!

I haven’t snagged the Iphone4 yet but I just want to use that as an example and say that Iphones are the best smart phones on the market. Again, Mac has delivered us a device that is clearly a cut above the rest. Mac’s so awesome it can release a device with a defect and still kill in sales. Who else can do that?

    • Justin · 4 months, 3 weeks ago

It is a great phone, I am happy with it. I still don’t think it was right for them to knowingly release it with a defect and let the general public discover it…

    • Clayton McIlrath · 4 months, 3 weeks ago

I still think Android will win (even though I’m currently using the iPhone 4), but there’s no denying, Apple can make some sick products and their marketing is absolutely insane.

    • Justin · 4 months, 2 weeks ago

I think Android will win as well if this Oracle lawsuit doesn’t cripple it.
