Is anyone out there making money off selling digital downloads, albeit, ebooks to niches, scripts, mp3s, etc? Seems too good to be true. The build it and forget it mentality... in other words, hire ghost writer to write a book for a niche (or write it yourself), throw up a web site, adwords it, and forget about it, while your Paypal account blows up.

    NAHHH... sounds too easy.

I've thought about it but it's a saturated market - everything you can think of already has ebooks/info 5x over. But definately worth giving it a shot if you have the time on your hands because, as you said, set it and forget it - totally passive income once it's up and running and integrated all over the net.

Got any ideas for a topic?

I think it's a tough market to make money in. When you reach a stage where you are recognized as an expert and specialist in something, then would be the optimal time to look at writing a book (printed or digital). When created for the sole purpose of making some cash, like almost all of the 40-page long, photoshopped book cover, secrets to financial wealth books, it shows.

Even though this won't directly bring in any paychecks, ChangeThis can be a fantastic way to build your personal brand and develop a group of advocates that might be interested in your further offerings. If you can sell your idea on ChangeThis or a site like it, doors will open to meet new people and opportunities will present themselves; much like what Jack Canfield has done.

I'm thinking more along the lines of picking a large demographic, such as tattoos, and decide to spend a full month researching the topic "Learn How to Tattoo", and writing a small 20 page eBook, creating one of those lame ass 1 page web sites that has a crazy sales letter, running adwords for the keywords, and make passive income.

I know it is not that simple, but I see so many of these long 1-page web sites selling something lame, and I've got to wonder, are people actually making passive income off of these? The ironic part is that most of these long 1-page web sites sell a product/ebook to help you figure out how to make passive income! HAHA...

I guess I just don't get this phenomenon? A lot of stupid people out there, or is there real money in passive income sites?

Have you guys seen all the sharks feeding off this over here?

    Warriorforums is HILARIOUS.

I love that site, people over there are seriously nuts.

Anyway, I know people make money off stuff like this, because I know people who do, but the best way to $$$ is having real content, stuff people really want to know.

You've got to have something that people can't find in 5 minutes on google or wikipedia, because everyone's first instinct when you try to sell them an e-book is going to be taking 30 seconds and seeing if they can find the same info themselves. This is why crap like wholesaler lists doesn't sell as well as, say, detailed instructions on how to do an engine swap, with photos.

    Dragging up this old thread...

I make a nice monthly recurring income from e-books... well ebooks and other documents.

I compiled all my resources into a nice little membership site... membership fee's are basically just to assist in the cost of the bandwidth.

E-books alone are a tough sell.
