My company Web Success does logo design, but we're not the cheapest.
I've heard good things about Logoworks when you want a decent logo for a low price. For $299 you can get up to 4 design concepts.

I know a guy that does good work... only charges $9.00 and has unlimited revisions.

There are some foreigners on digital point forums that do them from $7 - $10 and do pretty decent work.

Sorry guys, I was gone all day yesterday and most of today. I am trying to get in touch with him, but he is not responding (could be away for the weekend).
I also know of another guy that does them for $6.00 and does really good work, but I have never used him personally... although he is my next option if I can't get in touch with my guy.
This is the guy that does the $6.00 Logo's.... he has a huge portfolio! He does great work.

This guy has pricing directly on his site. I found him on DP and he had a thread for $6.00 logo's. I think his prices went up, but you can try and contact him and see if he is still doing the DP special!Good luck, hope this helps!

That is correct, they are the same person, he has 2 websites. I made the second post as an update to the first post.

When one approaches a designer for a logo, is it best to have an idea of what you want, or just see what they come up with?

I think it depends. If you know where your site is going and what direction you want to take it in then you should have an idea since you know what you want it to represent.
However, if your just interested in getting something fresh and want to see what someone comes up with, I don't think thats a bad idea. Heck for $10 you might as well get a couple and hold on to them for later use!
Most designers will probably have questions they would ask you on top of what information you give them so that they can get a better idea of what you are looking for.

I don't see the $6 price tag anywhere. I see $10 for the most basic logo, $15 for "web 2.0 logo" - I guess that's close enough.

It is a Digital Point Promotion. Let him know you saw his Thread on Digital Point for $6.00 Logos.
Furthermore, there are a LOT of good designers on Digital Point. I am currently working with 2 of them on some banners I need done.
One guy is charging me $2.00/each (he's building his portfolio)
And another guy is charging me $10.00 for a HUGE banner with about 6 pictures and a lot of text.I strongly suggest browsing through those posts on DP, you'll find some great stuff!

So, he designs custom logos, but doesn't have one for himself??
I never heard of $6 dollars logos, but some logos in his portfolio are not bad.

for some reason these logos doesn't look very lasting.
They remind me of them parachute pants, only fads.
