What are you guys using 20 plus domain names for? Are they all just referring to a couple active ones?

Nope, most are monetized or have actual business/money-generating stuff on them. They are also great to sell if you ever get your hands on a good one. I've sold quite a few and have been happy with the profit.

I used to do a lot of domain trading..carried around 50 total at one point but I had a bunch come up for renewal at the same time and just couldn't swing it at the time (I was probably 15) so I didnt have the 100 bucks or so and a credit card to renew them.
Now I have about 10, a few of which my clients pay for, and I am working on developing the rest of them. Not enough time in the day though!

I have 45 and am looking to start selling about 50% of them in the near future.

I started buying domains in February and I am think I am addicted now! As of today I have 259. I am working right now with a quality parking service to start monetizing them but they have me jumping through hoops taking screen-shots of my domains next to "personal identifying information". Here are a few samples of what I have:
organicmailorderfoods.com
affordableislandrealestate.com
canadianrealestateinfo.com
canadianorganicfarms.com
localinvestmentproperty.com
golfrentalproperty.com
googlemaoil.com
exportingtocanada.com
firsthomeusa.com
importingfromcanada.com
legalfirmservices.com
oilpurchasing.com
resourceprices.comI am interested to hear what anyone might think of this list...thus far I have focused more on brandable terms (either for myself or others) rather than short type-in traffic domains..
-
Nathan I justed started buying domains for investment recently as well and I think I'm addicted. I've got some really good ones. Some were appraised for 2-5k when I bought them.
What parking service are you using? What's their payout? Are you having success?
Phoenix, AZ Foreign Language Lessons - Tutoring Indianpolis, IN web design -
letutor, I had been with Godaddy Parking but the results were disappointing. I also didn't like how I paid them to park. I am getting more and more annoyed with all their nickel and diming. I have found myself using 1&1 more and more. I am applying with Trafficz right now and have been back and forth in emails with a client rep for the past 4 days. I like the idea of adding my own content to the parking page.
Since I personally don't type-in domains in the address bar I may be underestimating the importance of that strategy. I tend to see myself dealing directly with advertisers for highly niche sites, eg. small town real estate domains, because I anticipate a lack relevant ads being served for these type of domains.
I feel like there are too many "pros" buying up short, generic domain names for type-in traffic for me to aggressively compete with that tactic. I am also exploring the potential of affiliate marketing. Need to assess the minimum time investment necessary though.

50 or so.

I think affiliate marketing is serious business and probably takes a lot of effort. There are too many get rich quickers totting that's easy but I don't believe it is.
I think if you've got a high interest generic type in or typo then you can probably make some ok passive income. However, I wouldn't expect any windfalls unless you catch a lucky break and get an amazing one.
I'm purchasing hope to make just a little bit on parking, maybe a keeper or two, but mostly for the potential resell value in the future. It's similar to real estate but a whole lot cheaper.
10-500 dollars can get you a pretty good domain.
I just came across some good ones and will post how they do later on.
Keep us updated on which parking works best for you. Has 1&1 been working for you?
Phoenix, AZ Foreign Language Lessons - Tutoring Indianpolis, IN web design -
So far I have only registered domains with 1&1 and not used there parking system which is actually through Sedo. I like the domain registration there because private registration is included vs. Godaddy where youhave to pay extra.
One other strategy I am looking at is LeaseThis. The benefit there is you can earn a monthly residual and still own the domain to develop later.
-
I just read about leasethis.com I have you tried parked.com? I'm just getting into the whole parking thing and have quite a few domains that are pretty generic. Nothing super high traffic but should get some good traffic.

I think there is definitely money in affiliate marketing if you do it properly. There is no reason there wouldn't be. Anything you do has a learning curve though, and affiliate marketing is no different. I'm sure it is really easy to do the second time around once you have established your networks and know what you are doing. But most businesses are easier the second time around, that's learning for ya.
___________
Affiliate marketing is dead simple. Anyone can do it. It takes 1 minute a day and you'll have income of at least $5,000 per second. Guaranteed! BUT the catch is that you have to know how to do it, and you need to follow the right instructions. It's simple - sign up to my expensive coaching program now dammit!
