    So I have been thinking about this for the last little while and I figured you guys could help me out with my dilemma.

    As some of you know I run a graphics and web design company (wesbos.com.

    A few weeks ago I started up a blog (wesbos.com/blog). The main reason behind it was to improve my writing and display my abilities. In addition to that I post everything from tutorials on design, web development, life hack, and things that you would see on this site.

    Initially I planned to do this to strengthen my personal brand and "googleability" for when I graduate and get a job.

    Now I am wondering if I should start a separate site for my blog/ interests in case a few years down the road I want to bring on more writers/ sell.

    Basically what I'm asking is: What is more important? Keeping it on wesbos.com and developing a strong personal brand or making a strong site which I can profit off of (and potentially build personal brand off of?)

    I hope this makes sense, any clarification can be provided.

    It all depends on what your goals are. It's unlikely that you'll create a blog that you can sell. It's possible that you can make a blog that you can make some money off of but it's takes a lot of work.

    Do you want blogging to be a profession or do you want it to support your profession, design?

    If you want your blog to simply be a forum for expression, self branding, networking, and hopefully getting a few leads then keep it at wesbos.com.

    In fact the reason I contacted you was because I saw your work displayed on your blog and thought it was great stuff. Had your work not been displayed I would have moved on.

    So pro blogger or designer who blogs?

    I'd repeat Aaron's last question, "pro blogger or designer who blogs"?

    99% of the blogs that are built to be sold at some point either fail at delivering consistently good content, building a readership, or making any more than a few hundred bucks if and when you sell it.

    I say make your blog the main page of your site and your portfolio secondary. The blog is your marketing tool, like Jason Santa Maria, and creates a reason for people to return to your site. You only need to see a portfolio once.

    Thanks for the input, I think I will be taking that route.

    I am going to experiment with putting the blog on the front page as apposed to "types of services".
