The realistic VC guide

“There are actually very very few business problems that can be solved with money.”

Saw this come across my RSS today and had to share it. It’s The realistic entrepreneur’s guide to venture capital by Seth Godin. It’s a 15 point list to get your head straight about venture capital. Great read.

Throw your $204 million diamonds in the sky

Jay-Z

It was announced yesterday that Jay-Z has sold Rocawear to Iconix Brand Group for $204 million in cash, plus an additional $35 million in Iconix stock if it hits projected markers over the next few years.

Not too shabby for an apparel line extended from a record label by three pals (Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter, Damon Dash and Kareem “Biggs” Burke) just over a decade ago.

It has been reported that Kanye West interrupted this announcement screaming, “But I’m the best clothing line. I should’ve been bought. Rocawear ain’t got nothing on me.” Jay-Z was able to settle him down by helping Kanye understand that he is a person, not a clothing line.

The George Bush Walker

Strangely cool. In a hippy sort of way.

A big thanks to Guy for getting his hands on this video. I’ve spoken about Threadless before and this video is their show stealing presentation at the CommunityNext conference a few weeks back.

Dreamhost bites the dust

Looks like Dreamhost has taken a dive for over 5 hours. Ouch.

Would you like a bag for that Declaration of Independence?

Declaration of Independence

Michael Sparks was shopping in a thrift store in Nashville last March. He noticed a “yellowed, shellacked, rolled-up document”. Upon asking the clerk “how much?”, the clerk labeled it $2.48.

Through a little research online Michael learned that the old document he bought happened to be 1 of 200 official copies of the Declaration of Independence commissioned by John Quincy Adams in 1820.

The document is up for auction on March 22nd with an opening bid of $125,000 and is expected to go for at least twice that.

When asked to comment, the clerk that sold the Declaration continuously smacked himself in the face.

The Human Skateboard

Here’s a pretty cool budget conscious, stop motion commercial created by Pez for SneauxShoes.

Should Jon Stewart be scared?

Fox has created a news satire show of it’s own hoping to pull a few of The Daily Show viewers away from Jon Stewart to watch what they call “The 1/2 Hour News Hour”. If forced humor that resembles 1 am infomercials is your thing, you’ll enjoy this. “The Daily Show for conservatives” premieres tomorrow night on Fox News.

Google shows Feedburner some love

feedburnerIf you’re as obsessed with metrics as most bloggers are, you’ll be glad to hear that Google Reader can now be tracked by Feedburner. The Blog Herald caught this special movement in numerology and states that “Google Reader was unable to count above the number “one when reporting subscribers.

That buggle has been overcome and many bloggers, including YGG, have seen quite a significant boost in the feed counter. It brought our one month old version nearer to the 100 marker and took TechCrunch from 190,000 to 271,000 readers. Arrington obviously took this round, but we are slowly, slowly, slowly catching up.

“What would you like to see on YGG?”

This is for all the blog and RSS readers that may not have seen this discussion in the forum.

To summarize and hopefully get your feedback, what would make YGG kick some serious ass? What do you love about the site, what do you hate about it?
