Which of these books would you like reviewed most?

Here are the rules of the YGG Bookclub. 1) The book must have been read at least twice. 2) It must relate to young go getters. 3) That’s pretty much it.

It’s been a while since we reviewed a book and I’d love for you guys to pick the next one(s). I went through my library/closet and picked out a few dozen books that follow the rules above. Share your picks in the comments and hopefully we’ll be able to get a majority vote on a few books and cover the choices for a handful of upcoming reviews.

Here are the books with an Amazon link for each from left to right to help you make your decision.

Meet the developer behind the latest YGG

About two months ago I decided that I wanted to focus on my online ventures and make them the priority of 2007. To do that I figured I’d need to find a developer that could handle the technical aspects while I focus on the creative end.

So I posted a request for help on Programmer Meet Designer. In less than a day I got one reply. Some Alaskan fellow named Brandon. I replied to his comment immediately, we swapped e-mails and it all began.

Less than a month ago, Eric and I decided that YGG was due for a revamp. So we asked Brandon if he’d be interested in working with us on this project. With no hesitation, he gave us a huge “SURE.

We gave him a rough idea of what we were looking to do and sent over some mockups to help illustrate our madness a little better. Over the course of about two weeks we we’re blown away each day.

Brandon is the sixth or so developer that I’ve worked with personally, and there is no question, he’s the best I’ve ever seen.

Surprise!

Notice anything new? Take a look around, I’ll wait. Welcome to version 3 of YGG.

If you’re a visitor or member, you’ve probably seen how quiet YGG has been for the past month or so. Most of the feature sections have been inactive for over a month and new bugs have popped up here and there.

What happened was, we kind of got sick of YGG, more specifically, the process of maintaining it. What you don’t see behind the scenes is a complex admin that we used to add content to each of the sections. It’s a very tedious process that consumed a lot of time and energy, even for minor updates.

That process pretty much frustrated us to the point where we lost the enthusiasm to maintain everything. It was a pain in the ass.

Our original priority was to create great content and enable young go getters to do the same. We lost sight of that vision in a web of technical details. We stopped having fun.

Why won’t your mommy order that present online for you this Christmas?

As Christmas nears, many of us including myself have yet to kick into full shopping mode. We have the choice; do we crawl through the maze of shoppers at the nearest mall? Or do we order the gifts online and hope they arrive in time?

The numbers continuously shift each year from the amount of dollars spent at brick and mortar stores to spent online during Christmas season. So you’d think launching an e-store would be a safe bet.

There just happens to be one big issue. Adults.

As my parents ask what I’d like for Christmas, I yank ‘em over to my monitor, and pull up a few websites that just so happen to be in my bookmark toolbar (wink wink). I mention all the techy details in an ecstatic display in hopes of sealing the present deal and wait for their reaction.

Nine out of ten times I’ll hear, “can we get that at the store? or “I don’t want my credit card to get hacked. I’m not too sure exactly how a credit card would get “hacked, but I cut them some slack.

Physical relativity

Some time ago I looked back at my past failures and successes, not just in business but in life overall. Standing them side by side I realized one very obvious theme: My state of physical well being seems to be directly tied to the kind of success I was having in life at the time.

i went through a rough time briefly prior to and immediately following high school where I was very unhealthy and out of shape. My diet was atrocious, I was pushing 300lbs and moved like a slug. I had the lowest self esteem imaginable and was constantly thinking about how others viewed me. It was all consuming, and I was completely unproductive.

I don’t know what happened, but one day I looked at myself in the mirror and realized the person staring back wasn’t me at all. The person inside didn’t match the shell. The shell was suffocating the real me with self conscious thoughts. It was that day that I decided to make a change.

One virus, two virus, three virus, four

To go hand in hand with this week’s poll, I’ll talk about a habitual notion. If you’re like most people, you can look around your office and within arm’s reach will be a ream of cds or dvds. They’ve been anxiously staring at you for a few months’ time.

You heard …
