Interview with Brent Sayles
Intro
We are no strangers to the “interview” here at YGG, I think it is a great way to interact with other YGG’s that you haven’t heard of or want to get to know more about. This week I went local, to a good friend to talk about his success. I learned a lot from this gentleman on how to sell, but more importantly on how to stay positive and how that effects everyone around you.
He is a class act, and you will see a strong leader and team player. He has made great success for himself through that positive attitude. Please help support him in his new endeavors, there is a lot that can be learned from what he has to say and the message is beneficial to everyone!
I hope you enjoy!
Interview
We know you’re a “Young Go Getter”, but so our readers know, how old are you?
29
Can you tell us the quick history about yourself, and what drives you to succeed?
Currently I am the General Sales Manager at Winnipeg Hyundai, Canada’s Largest Hyundai Dealership, and in the process of launching BrentSayles.com. A Professional Training, Sales, and Non-profit website.
I love my current position and have developed my passion for training and coaching through my amazing team of professionals.
We know you are a younggogetter, but I am sure there is more to you than that. What are some other things you have done prior to you current job or things you are currently working on?
Prior to Winnnipeg Hyundai, I was a professional salesperson at Murray Chevrolet Hummer. I Spent 2 years at Best Buy as a Sales Manager / Trainer and previous to that was an IT Manager for 5 years.
What has been your biggest asset while building your career?
I believe my biggest asset is my ability to help the team around me grow. I surround myself with amazing individuals who with some coaching, and training elevate themselves to a higher level. When the team you lead is reaching new heights, it pushes you, as the coach to hit the next level.
That and the philosophy to “Add Outrageous Value,” to my customers, staff, family members, friends has helped me be successful in any path I choose.
Adversely, what has been your biggest vice?
My passion at times has blinded me from the facts. Facts that may have avoided failure or setbacks. However, I believe that failure is an event and not a person. I have since learned to consider more angles in a situation rather than just my heart. In the end though, if I am passionate about something and a decision needs to be made, I still go with my heart.
What can we expect next from the talented Brent Sayles in the near future?
In the new year Brentsayles.com will be launching to serve as a Success Training Centre for young professionals and youth as well as functioning as a hub for various business, non-profit, and networking programs.
Everyone starts to feel burn out on a project every now and then. What do you do to keep yourself motivated and focused?
Celebrate the small victories! The little steps are what get you to the end of your journey. Break down your goal, project, dream into daily targets and celebrate when you achieve target.
Can you give us three tools that you use every single day to make your life as a younggogetter more efficient, productive, or fun?
1. Wake up early. Join the 5 am club, and spend at least one hour on yourself. Saying you don’t have time for self-improvement or growth is like saying, “I can’t stop for gas because I’m driving too fast.” It will eventually catch up to you. Read for 10 min, exercise for 20, Write for 10, spend 10 in silence thinking or writing about your goals, spend the last 10 thinking about the positives in your life. (I’m happy, healthy, my friends are amazing, my family is supportive, and I love what I do.)
2. Cut out the negativity in your life. Turn off the news, stop reading the paper, the gossip columns, turn off the TV. Have a conversation with a great author by reading their book. Spend the extra time with friends or family, finding your passion, or practising your passion. NO ONE’s passion is television, or reading the paper. 90% of everything reported is negative. Garbage in - Garbage out.
3. Protect you attitude at ALL COSTS! Do not sacrifice your positive attitude. If the people around you have a consistently bad attitude then find new people who share the same passion for life.
What is your favorite quote?
“Whether you think you can or think you can’t, you’re right!” – Henry Ford
And last but not least, if you could give one piece of advice to fellow Young Go Getters, what would it be?
Being a leader is about doing what’s right when no one is watching. Stop worrying about your title or status. True leadership exists in helping people reach their highest potential, and helping them push through their growing pains. When you’re tired, want to go home and no one is left in the office, make those last few phone calls. Do what’s right when no one is watching!
