Optimizing your Basecamp productivity with COLOURlovers

November 28, 2007  |  By Travis  |  Articles

I noticed a post on the 37signals product blog that wrote about Darius’ COLOURlovers. Their idea was to use the colour palettes on CL to spice up your Basecamp account, if you so happen to use one for project management.

Eric and I have been using Basecamp somewhat faithfully for the past several months, and I’ve used it with my clients for well over a year. But after a while, the default theme palettes can become a bit of an eyesore.

Having dug through a ton of the top palettes on COLOURlovers, I figured I’d share what I think are the most interesting to help you beautify your theme and enjoy using Basecamp.

Chupacabra Palette

Synchronized Chaos Palette

Japanese Bath Palette

Coffee Girl Palette

Artificial Growth Palette

The Dude’s Rug Palette

Bavarian Bear Palette

Summer Grass Palette

Burning Red Ivanhoe Palette

If you don’t have a Basecamp account, you should give their free plan a try. You can manage one project and access just about all the features for zip, zero, zilch. Whether you work by yourself or with a team, this simple project management app is invaluable.

I tried out Basecamp a while back but never used it seriously enough to determine if it would enhance my productivity or not… guess its worth another shot, especially if I can make it look hot.

If it doesn’t sync to my mobile device, forget it. That’s what really holds me back from using it exclusively.

I love my iCal, Address Book, and Sticky integration.

Looks like there is a professionally designed sync app for mobile, Eric.

It’s not free, but it’s only $1.99/month. Give their 30 day trial a try.

Color schemes look really great, but unfortunately it’s not enough to make me use Basecamp again. I had a couple of major pains when I tried to manage several projects in it. It was really horrible to deal with a client who also had a Basecamp account. Now I’m pretty happy with Wrike http://www.wrike.com/, not planning to switch.

Sweet! Nice work Travis. It is always fun to see the uses for color palettes from the site… and it was cool enough having 37signals link us, but this really shows how to use the palettes.

As a new user of Base Camp at work. Thank you…Having to look at the standard colour scheme was putting me to sleep. Have anything in Magenta and Cyan?
