This post will contain one image, 110 words, and positively reference 37signals

Yesterday, the Chicago whiz-kids known as 37signals, wrote one of their better posts in years, in my opinion. Restrictions and guidelines are essential in directing your creative. With many young go getters working in the realm of the internet, we’ve become accustomed to a wide-open medium.

Virtually everything works on everyone’s computers nowadays (flash, ajax), screen resolutions vary from 800×600 up to 1920×1200, enormous applications are now browser based, and content management systems like Wordpress and Drupal enable you to create unlimited types of websites.

But I don’t need to rehash the 37signals post. Read about their experience when developing for the iPhone and it’s restrictions, here.

Good post. I agree 100% that you have to clearly define your goals. Too many are blinded by the can do anything medium offered by the internet. We definitely need to set clear guidelines as to what we are and AREN’T trying to achieve.
