The Style of Internet Entrepreneurs
I was in New York City last week for the Future of Online Advertising conference. The attendees came from all sides of the internet business, Creative Agency Executives, Ad Networks, Designers & Creatives, Publishers, etc… One thing we all had in common: We seemed to all have the same stylist.

Converse. Designer Jeans. T-shirt. Coat Jacket. It was quite comical to see all of us creative internet types in the same great hall. While we all had our own twist on the style thing, (my converse are white with pin-stripes) we all pretty much looked like we shopped from the same catalogs. I think this particular style is chosen because it is a mix of “I’m young” - implication of youth and creativity. “I’m nerdy” so I get technology. “I’m Stylish” and in the know with what is hot and new. “I’m a Businessman” and I can talk shop when I need to. However you shake it down, this style seems to be the current defining style for the creative, internet using generation… Do you disagree or does this fit for you too? |

I’ll probably catch flack for this, but I’ve never been a big fan of Converse kicks. Other than that, yeah, I fit the profile to a T.

So I take it there were no women at the conference … or were they wearing Converse, jeans etc. too.

Interesting. The difference between the looks of an internet entrepreneur and an unemployed businessman? A tie. :)

TP-I’d kinda like to know what the fashionable geek ladies are wearing this conference season too!

As a fashionable internet entrepreneur lady… I am partial to designer jeans, or v-necks with blazers, occasional banana republic “professional” looking stuff… and the occasional pencil skirt with some back heels (they go with everything). As far as regular shoes… converse are waaay in the back of my closet, but I prefer Diesels.
For a woman the difference between an internet entrepreneur and an unemployed businesswoman is jewlrey. (so I’ve noticed).

TP: There were women there, but yes they were wearing a similar style… there were some pant-suits, but more from the corporate executive ladies.
As for the shoes… I’m using Converse fairly loosely. You can substitute Vans or any sort of flats / trainers.

I’m definitely no converse man. Dunno why, just never seemed to like the design - I prefer slip on white trainers to be honest, although at school I’m used to wearing my pin-striped suit - looking like a proper “g” in classes! ;)

Clearly you all came to Java One, saw me there and copied my style. And for the record, I am female - so my jacket while black has a bit more panash and is less baggy. But I am a black converse girl (apparently it is all the rage in Paris this year - and actually I have heard that - no really, not kidding!)

Pretty much. I’ll skip on the Converse shoes.

I stick with my Asic Onitsuka Tigers. You can dress them up or down and they are the most comfortable shoe I’ve ever worn. I wear them around town or hiking in the mountains.

I’m female and I wear jeans, Converse sneaks and some kind of geeky, online-purchased t-shirt every day. I don’t know what I’d do if I suddenly had to start dressing up again.
