Like a bat out of hell
March 5, 2007
You may have heard of Matt Coddington. He recently joined the YGG forum, is quite a successful internet entrepreneur at the ripe old age of 22, and owns a website that entered the blogging world like, well, like a bat out of hell. He asked us to write a review of that website, Net Business Blog.
I’m not sure if there’s a formula to calculate the age of a blog as to the age of its blogger much like dog years, but Net Business Blog has done in less than 2 months what usually takes the typical blogger a few years.
Net Business Blog is about how to make a living online. Through its rampant growth spurt it’s already on the heels of similar mega-blogs such as John Chow, Problogger, and Shoemoney, among others.
Matt has been a web developer/designer for over 7 years, so he knows what he’s talking about when it comes to developing a successful internet property. He’s also a master of how-to and list articles which has resulted in him making the front page of Digg several times and almost hitting the 800 subscriber marker in just under two months.
If that number doesn’t make you drool, seeing that he sits just under 9,000 on Alexa may draw a little envy from you.
How has he catapulted himself into the higher rankings of blogging in so little time?
Being friends with and a guest blogger for John Chow doesn’t hurt, but his content and enthusiasm has really gotten the ball rolling.
While most of us try to write a post a day about anything that comes to mind, Matt has focused on writing specialized content for his niche, professional and wannabe bloggers, several times a day. He’s a prime example of “you get what you give”. To say he’s done not too shabby would be an understatement.
Some of his better posts include:
8 Reasons Why the Masses Love Lists
The 14 Point Web Design Checklist
Top 10 Worst Internet Marketing Videos Ever
Do You Have the Designer’s Eye?
Building a Niche Minisite (Part 1)
Building a Niche Minisite (Part 2)
As much as this is a review of Net Business Blog, it can be categorized as a Site We Love as well. Matt is well on his way to becoming a household name in the circle of website monetization.
If you time your subscribing to his RSS right, you may be number 1,000. But act fast, as he’ll probably hit that milestone in the next few days. Yes, I am extremely jealous of that.
Congrats Matt.

Hey Travis, thanks a lot for the review! One thing though - I think you mean “just under 9,000″ in Technorati, not Alexa. My Alexa is around 30k

Hey Matt,
I meant for the week. Your 1 week average is at 8,863 right now, which is unbelievable.
Ironically enough, you sit about 1,000 back of that in Technorati, for the time being at least.

Oh okay I got ya Travis. I was like 9332 in Technorati a couple hours ago - that’s mostly a joke anyway.

Eric,
Don’t you mean 2 months and not a long time?
Eric said on March 5, 2007...
I said “sometime now”, just about a 5 weeks - many feeds don’t last 3 days in my RSS because I lose interest.
