Interview with Jennifer Kushell of YSN

jennifer kushell

After passing through customs and finding a quiet corner to call her own, Jennifer Kushell was able to find some time to allow me to interview her. When we’d normally be struggling to gain prime position in the buffet line at lunch, Jennifer is hopping and skipping from state to state presenting keynotes, promoting her book, introducing her new website, and being a strategic consultant, among many other things.

You know you’re speaking to a very powerful individual when a message from their PR rep and personal assistant await you in your voicemail, confirming the interview later that day.

YSN is the network Jennifer just brought out of beta a couple weeks ago. Your Success Network pretty much enables you to develop relationships with business persons on all levels. As you’ll hear in the interview, there are millionaires and billionaires in YSN that interact with young go getters like you and I, and enable us to get advice from the frontline.

My username on YSN is YoungGoGetter and I encourage you to sign-up and explore all the different elements of the network. As a bonus, they’re running a contest until February 16th, which allows you to win some prizes for getting others to sign up. I’d appreciate it if anyone interested in signing up, mention that in the comments or send me an e-mail (travis (at) younggogetter (dot) com). I’ll send you an invite immediately, enabling me to win some free goodies. It’s a win-win situation. ;)

Take a listen to the interview, let me know what you think and if you have any questions for Jennifer post them in the comments as I’m sure she’ll be dropping by.

Great interview! Her advice towards the end about giving one piece of advice to young entrepreneurs is so on point and correct. You can tell in the interview that her mind runs pretty quickly with the way that she speaks and how quickly everything flows out.

    Nice!

Just finished up listening to the interview. I’ve got to tell ya, it really struck home with me for a couple reasons.

I’m sure Jennifer doesn’t remember, but a while ago, probably when I was 15-16, we e-mailed back and forth a couple times. I was a HUGE fan of her book “The Young Entrepreneur’s Edge” and at the time I had some questions. She was always quick to respond and being so young it was sure exciting to get a response from a published author.

Towards the beginning of the interview she talks about reading a book, “7 Habits of Highly Effective People” which changed her life. It was Jennifer’s book, “The Young Entrepreneur’s Edge” that really unlocked that difference inside me and pushed me into this lifestyle. I always knew it was there, but something about that book really brought it out.

Travis also says that her book, “The Secrets of the Young and Successful” really gave him a nudge. I find it so interesting that we’ve come full circle now, and our paths are crossing once again.

Thank you Jennifer for taking the time to do the interview. I’m sure we’ll be in touch.

Please, all YGGers send Travis an e-mail for an invite to YSN and check it out!

And if you’re a digger - digg this. Thanks!

I have read both of her books as well when I was younger (probably 4-5 years ago) and must say they inspired me too to try and take on the world of entrepreneurship as much as I could.

The advice she gave at the end changed my way of thinking about entrepreneurship. Just earlier today, I read an essay by Aaron Swartz, the young entrepreneur that created RSS who quoted an old mathematician G. H. Hardy:

“Good work is not done by ‘humble’ men. It is one of the first duties of a professor, for example, in any subject, to exaggerate a little both the importance of his subject and his own importance in it. A man who is always asking ‘Is what I do worthwhile?’ and ‘Am I the right person to do it?’ will always be ineffective himself and a discouragement to others. He must shut his eyes a little and think a little more of his subject and himself than they deserve. This is not too difficult: it is harder not to make his subject and himself ridiculous by shutting his eyes too tightly.”

As you can see her advice and this quote clearly contradict themselves. As I am thinking about it, I think one needs to be a little of both confident and humble at the same time. In any case, nice interview. I enjoyed it.
