Not the next Steve Jobs

Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook, sweating bullets. Wearing flip-flops on stage, then presenting like you’re reading a brochure aloud. Pick an edge and stick with it next time Mark.

    Must be hard to go from code geek to front man for one of the internet’s biggest sites in just a few years. He should have defiantly gone though some public speaking training before doing that, I was nervous for him.

    i think he was gone trough this presentation many times before geting on stage… maybe practiced it too many times :) not too natural and spontanous performance:)

    I think the biggest problem here is that Mark looks like he was trying to be Steve Jobs. Why?

    He should be out there in flip flops & fleece or whatever makes him comfortable… he also should have made the whole thing a lot more natural. His image is that of the “college kid” mega-success story… he should stick with that.

    The whole part where he introduces the “3 new things” looks like it was a complete copy of a Jobs presentation.

    Hell… If I was the billion dollar college kid… I would have done that presentation on a comfortable couch with a fresh hot Pizza and ended it with a keg stand.

    That was almost painful… (granted, I can’t say I’d do a heck of a lot better.) It reminds me that I really need to brush up on my public speaking, though!

    Had I pity on him! I think the use of gesture is the problem. I guess he normally talks with his hands in the pockets and someone told him to use gesture for a more lively presentation.

    That was painful in the beginning, he seemed to get more comfortable once he started talking about the interface. I think it points to a couple of important points:

    (1) Be prepared to the point where you know what you are saying without even thinking about it. Know your speech cold.

    (2) Talk about your passion. His passion is clearly in the interface and technology.

    Let someone else talk about the sweeping ramifications or big picture stuff if you’re uncomfortable doing it and stick to what you are passionate about so that you don’t come off like a stiff.

    I agree with Darius. He has the perfect image already preceding him, why mess that up? He should have rocked a Threadless T and some tore up jeans…and maybe a pair of flip flops with a bottle opener on the bottom so he could pop a Corona on stage.
