Physical relativity

Some time ago I looked back at my past failures and successes, not just in business but in life overall. Standing them side by side I realized one very obvious theme: My state of physical well being seems to be directly tied to the kind of success I was having in life at the time.

i went through a rough time briefly prior to and immediately following high school where I was very unhealthy and out of shape. My diet was atrocious, I was pushing 300lbs and moved like a slug. I had the lowest self esteem imaginable and was constantly thinking about how others viewed me. It was all consuming, and I was completely unproductive.

I don’t know what happened, but one day I looked at myself in the mirror and realized the person staring back wasn’t me at all. The person inside didn’t match the shell. The shell was suffocating the real me with self conscious thoughts. It was that day that I decided to make a change.

About 6 months and 100lbs later, I was feeling great. I finally felt like the person in the mirror WAS me, and I was ready to move on without distraction. It was at this time that I ran my first successful business. I was making money hand over fist at 19, doing it all on my own, and happy as can be. I bought my first house. My relationship got stronger and healthier, and I just had an overall boost in my quality of life.

I haven’t looked back since then and continue living a healthy lifestyle not because I’m scared of being fat, but because it’s just a part of who I am now. I know the benefits reach far beyond physical health. To be successful in life, you need to be physically, mentally, and emotionally sound.

When you look in the mirror, are you seeing yourself or are you seeing something that could be improved upon? Do you feel like you’re in the best shape of your life? If you don’t, why not? Why not now? You’re not getting any younger. I’m telling you now, your life will take on a whole new shape. All things good start with a healthy lifestyle.

    Great story Eric.

I wholeheartedly agree that your energy and motivation to be fit reflects the same elements in your professional life.

Time to get my ass overly active again.
