Hey Everyone. I have been in the process for the last 9 months of planning a non-profit organization that will send toys and school supplies to poverty stricken areas of the world, which could be caused by war, natural disaster, economic problems or any other number of reasons. The organization will also send supplies to members of the military who are serving in different parts of the world. But we need some start up funding! The biggest hurdles right now are the registration fees and then it will be getting the supplies and finding some storage space.

I have a few different organizations that I am going to work with to set up collections to get a starting amount of toys/supplies together.

I have a business plan set up and available to show to interested parties. If you would like to view the plan, please contact me via email at admin@professionalgfx.net or drop me a PM on here.

Thank you very much for your time and I look forward to hearing from people!

I'd be interested in giving it a read. I know it's a non-profit...but how are you going to make money?

Hey Eric- Thanks for the reply. I dont have the business plan here with me at work so I will have to send it to you later on tonight.

Money will be raised/made/earned/whatever you want to call it through corporate sponsorships, holding different events to raise money(charity dinner with silent auction, possibly a car show, and some other things) and then through selling the usual promotional items and whatever else we can think of. If you have some ideas, I would love to hear them.

I will send you the business plan later tonight, I havent updated it/looked at it for a while, so it is no where near complete but you can get a good idea of what we are trying to achieve.

    Thanks!

How do the "administrators" get paid - out of those sponsorships? I don't know if they'll go for that :)

Lets face it, all non-profits are for-profits in disguise (for the most part - people don't work their tail off for free)

All members of the board of the directors will start as unpaid members, volunteers pretty much. When the organization is established and the need for a real full time paid staff is neccessary, then they will be paid through the funding raised- either through donations via large personal contributors or other sources and events that raise money. I have not put a lot of thought into the paying people aspect yet because it is not something that I am really looking to make money off of. If I can get a few people that are willing to help make the organization a semi success and at least show a little bit of green in the back account, I would be happy.

It is true that non-profits are looking to turn a profit, it is just used in other ways that it would be in a regular for profit organization. Such as the founder/owner/ceo not getting bonuses if there is a large profit left over after the fiscal year. Instead the money would go towards either paying back loans, etc or expanding the operation.

Gotcha - I don't know much about them other than the fact I've worked with one before and it was more of a for-profit organization than Microsoft.
