How are you writing it? What format do you want it be in? pdf ... exe ..?

There are some editors that will convert easily into an pdf ebook, if I recall correctly.

This is the best site for self-publishing books, http://www.cafepress.com/cp/info/help/learn_book.aspx

I'm currently applying to be a college professor and if hired, I'll be using that site as a part of my course for students to self-publish their own book.

There are only two professional ways to layout a book, whether it be digital or print:

    Adobe InDesign (my fav)

    Quark Xpress

These are both layout applications in which you set your type, place images, etc... You should use Adobe Photoshop to edit your photos and cover design. And Adobe Illustrator should only be used if you plan to incorporate any vector elements.

I've used each of these apps every day for about 5 or so years now, and will hopefully be teaching advertising students how to use them (i'll know whether or not I can teach next week or so). If you need any help Eric just let me know.

And one of the best examples of a beautifully designed ebook are all of the free books available on http://www.changethis.com/, which is one of Seth Godin's creations.

Ahhhhh, lol. InDesign is much much better than Quark, and has a similar interface, shortcuts, compatibility, with Photoshop and all of the other Adobe applications. Quark requires plugins to be bought to take advantage of many features that are standard in InDesign.

One of the great things about Adobe is the merger with Macromedia opens up some sweet bundle packs like http://www.adobe.com/products/bundles/web_bundle.html.

And of course, you have to have Photoshop, which I'm pretty sure you already have judging by all of the sites you've designed.
