I've got some invites to Spock.com
It's a people search engine that's still in private beta... Dave McClure is an advisor, and they've received funding from some pretty solid VC's.

Okay, I'm gonna need last names too... Aaron, you're last name is.... last name, lol. Good thing for beta.

Looks like another useless niche search engine, unless you like to stalk people. It's amazing how much money gets thrown at these things.
-
I'm not sure if you've even tried it out, Audarius. It's actually quite useful if you need to research people, or if you're interested in looking up an individual. It's very similar to Wikipedia, but centered around people.
Not only does a robot scour the web for information on particular individuals, but it also allows you to fill in the gaps in a wiki-like setting. I can add additional information about George Bush, I can add tags and websites referencing him, etc.. (most of this is auto-found by the bot).
This isn't a social network aggregation tool used for stalking. I suggest you give it a try for fair evaluation.

I don't even need to try it.
If I want something similar to Wikipedia, then I'll go to Wikipedia. If I want to research someone I'll go to a reliable source, if I don't know that source then I'll go to Google to find the source. If I have an interest in someone then I'll go to Wikipedia. Spock is useless.

Is Shatner involved with Spock?

Hilarious.
I see we're not into this type of thing here, lol
I suppose that we're not all open-minded either... we can just use 4 different sites to accomplish something that one site can do just fine :)

I like to have GOOD information. If I am interested in someone I will only go to one (Wikipedia). But if I need reliable information from a reliable source(s), some searching will be required. One site cannot do that. You said it yourself: "I can add additional information about George Bush..." Spock like Wikipedia is not 100% reliable. People will take advantage of the wiki and give bias/falsifiable information.
If you take the people part out of Wikipedia and give it a good 2.0ish interface with more pictures you have Spock, essentially.
-
I can remove the tag, but if 10 other people have added it, then that still leaves 9 "votes". There is also an extensive list of external URLs that are associated with that person. In other words, you perform the search on Spock and not only get peer edited information, but links to additional sources. It's just a simple one-stop-shop for referencing people, not stalking. How would you know that if you've never gone past the "We're in Beta" screen?
Sorry if I sounded a little harsh... but I hate when people prejudge, especially when they don't completely grasp that which they are criticizing. That's like the guy who hates Google, but has never tried it nor even seen their homepage. Or like my dad, who swears he doesn't like sushi, but has never tasted it.
-
I'll take an invite to give it a try. I've been working with MediaWiki for one of my clients for the past little while. Who knows, I may like Spock.

Mahalo.com is another hand-written site thats new on the block.
The Yahoo Directory in the 90s used to be done by hand but that gave way to algorithms like Google, now human-written stuff is back in.
It'll be interesting to see in 5 years if we're using algorithms or people :-)
I'm Ross from Thrive. See my log and HatchThat.
