My budgets tight so I don't want to register my site on any search engines that charge (Yahoo I'm looking at you)

So does anyone know of any free search engines I should be registering on?

I did have an article on this from somewhere but I was sure I added it to delicious but can't find it any more. At the moment the site is only registered on Google.

    Any suggestions welcome, thanks :o)

Google, Yahoo and MSN's search engines should be free. Yahoo have a directory which is paid but that is separate to yahoo.com in general. Since those are the big three you should do alright with those, but you may look at paying for an industry search engine if that is relevant to your visitors.

Go for the big 3 as Ross mentioned. Add DMOZ to that list for good measure, and if it features a blog or is a blog, Technoarti is a must.

I don't think technorati is really a must. I don't get any traffic from the site and am not sure that it is weighted that heavily in terms of SEO backlink authority.

DMOZ is free but basically takes a murder to get listed these days. They are amazingly inefficient and backed up on work. So good luck getting listed but if you can it's worth it.

Get listed in the YGG directory cloud - definitely the place to be :)

Honestly if I ever need a site listed in Google, I throw a link in the YGG directory and within a few days the site get's put in.

@Eric : I do plan to add the link here once the site goes live in the hope of not only getting feedback but yeah picking it up in search engines.

@letutor: I see what you mean on DMOZ. Their submission procedure was really complicated. Might submit the site to them once it goes live but for now I'll leave it. Thanks for the suggestion.

@Everyone: I added the site to Yahoo (thats Yahoo and Google so far) but I went over to MSN and just couldn't find where to submit my site. Seemed to just go round in circles. Any suggestions?
