Digg the video and get it some attention. This lady literally is risking her life for what she is saying.

As a Muslim, I would have to agree with only the very first parts of the speech which talk about civilization and cohabitation. I would also wholeheartedly agree that this minority group, who call themselves "freedom fighters", (aka. Osama and his gang), are not doing any favours for themselves, and are going completely against the teaching of the Prophet and Islam in general. I know I've had a good chat with Eric about this, and there simply is no justification to what these terrorists are doing.
But, some of the points raised by the woman are simply malicious - and it doesnt help that the Imaam gives a weak counterassertion in the form of the word "heretic". Prophet Muhammad promoted only peace contrary to what the lady says. At the time when he was alive, he was constantly opposed by the Quraish tribe (Jews). He tried to talk to them, but they only threw stones.
In the Qu'ran, God also says that we as Muslims have a right not only to look after our brother and sisters in Islam, but to promote peace and harmony with our fellow humans. Just because someone is Jewish, Christian, Hindu, DOES NOT give anyone a right to promote violence or hatred - I just wish that the small band of Muslims who do think this would stop being so blinkard.
Anyway I know that this isnt a religious debating forum, but I feel its important to give the viewpoint from a young Muslim who is growing up in a world where Muslims are hated for being Muslims and where people have not researched into the true religion - I can't really blame them, as it's only the terroristic views which circulate in the media. And some of those comments on Break.com are sad to read from my viewpoint. And I hope most of the facts I mentioned are correct, but please correct me if I'm wrong. ;)
If you do have any questions, ideas, statements about Islam feel free to post them - I won't take any offence - it's really interesting to know how the world feels. And I'll try and respond to the best of my knowledge.

I don't know much about Islam, but definitely admire this lady for taking a stand. I know that in that culture, she could very well be killed for saying what she is saying.
As a Christian, I was also taught that Muhammad promoted peace, so I also understand what Adnan is saying. It's so sad that a whole religion and race has to take the blame for one small group of killers who are essentially destroying the beauty and history that comes along with Islam and that entire culture.

I lived in France for 2 years and lived in areas that had large populations of muslims and arabs. From my experience there I can say that there are a lot of muslims that share the views of the more extreme groups.
I whole heartedly believe that anyone should be allowed to believe as they wish but when they begin to take away others free will to act out their own beliefs that's where I personally draw the line.
In Malaysia where a very large percentage of Muslims live the extremists groups are taking over because they violently force others to follow their form of Islam.
I'm not against a religious state in theory. However, in practice a religious state is too difficult to achieve without corruption and violations of basic human rights because human nature is to seek power and become corrupt.
If there is a Muslim group that is moderate and believes in living peacefully then they should be more vocal because he who screams the loudest gets heard. Right now, in order to save their own religion from being taken over, they need to speak up and organize or those who scream loudest will take over. In many cases I think they already have.

I agree with Aaron, anybody has the right to believe what they wish, but no one has the right to punish others for their beliefs.
Very moving video.

I agree with both of you as well - especially with your last part Aaron. In my community there are some great speakers, who could really stand up for Muslims across the globe. And I'm sure it must be the same in a lot of places, where speakers are calm and to not advocate violence on others.
Getting them to "Stand Up, Speak Up", is a different issue, and one which we must act on as Muslims if we dont wanna end up being crushed by the extremist groups.

You Go Girl = YGG...coincidence? I think not.

It's just like anything else... there will almost always be more non-extremist members of a community or a religion that think the extremists are crazy. Christian, Muslim...
