What does everyone think of ETFs? Seem like a nice way to get started into investing, if you pick a broad portfolio of them... kind of like having a portfolio within a porfolio.

Everyone should own ETFs in there portfolio to make it grow with the market - but keep in mind there are no dividend with them and many investors make a large chunk o fthere returns in dividends.

I don't know what ETF you own, but I get paid dividends on mine. I own VTI (Vanguard Total Index, also known as VIPERS). It's essentially the Wilshire 5000, excellent long-term investment. I get quarterly dividends just like I would with any other stock. Broad market-based ETF's are fantastic investments so long as you won't need the capital for a very Loooooong time, say 20 or 30 years. They are not practical instruments for short-term storage of capital intended to yield a good, predictable rate of return.
