    In this case the users effectively own the company. Remember, Digg is a company (one that's attracted VC funds), not just a website. And they've amassed a user base who believe they are in control, and should be allowed to use the company's product for whatever they wish.

    Unfortunately for Digg, their user base is not necessarily a law-abiding one nor one who will face recrimination for using Digg's product in a way that is detrimental to the company. Thus they will be held over a barrel any time they try and stand up for the good of the company, to the (supposed) detriment of the users.

    This is a defining moment for user-generated content - whether it's for better or worse time will tell. I wonder if this will affect Digg's relationship with its customers (advertisers).
