General Business: Tom is not my friend

Is Tom your friend still? I deleted him within a few minutes.
I find it interesting that at Facebook when you sign up you don't have any friends. You have to add them, they have to confirm you and then they can say what sort of relationship you have.
At Myspace most people will add anyone who adds them, and you can quite easily end up with hundreds of friends that you don't know.
Is it all default friend Tom's fault?

I created a Myspace profile as soon as I heard about the site, but haven't used it or intentionally visited it since then (at least a year and a half ago).
Facebook on the other hand: have been a member for a month or so, visit it every other day, have started talking to people I haven't seen in almost a decade, and tracked down dozens of others I went to school with and learned where they ended up.
I enjoy the closed nature of Facebook and it's security. It's a million times more inviting than Myspace.
Facebook is what Classmates.com should have become. Myspace is what Geocities did become.

Travis,
You're throwing out some old school websites there. Geocities and Classmates. Classmates is still around but it's a joke.

My mom loves classmates.com - haha

Tom was actually hired to be the face of myspace.
Myspace was awesome, but so shitty at the same time. I had 11,000 friends at one point, mostly bands people who loved to share the word about my business. Suuuuper marketing.

Yeah, I consider both Myspace and Facebook to be the second generation of Classmates and Geocities. Who will be the third? Not a clue. -
I think it's too earl to tell. No one has really created something that seems to be drawing that kind of attention or they aren't on the map yet.
Maybe Second Life but I think it's lame.
