Hey guys, just thought of something. I'd like to start a review my/your blog deal here on YGG. I like the directory, but would like to see us use it more effectively.

Here's how I think this would work (yes, I got the idea from John Chow) (2 different ways):

    First Way:
1.) Blogger1 blogs/reviews Blogger2's site. Links with a specific phrase as anchor text ("entrepreneur blog") that Blogger2 requested.

2.) Blogger2 blogs/reviews Blogger1's site, links with a specific phrase as anchor text ("personal finance blog") that Blogger1 requested.

They are done at that point, so Blogger3 comes along.

3.) Blogger3 blogs/reviews Blogger1's site with "entrepreneur blog" as anchor text, and Blogger2's site with "personal finance blog" as anchor text.

    4.) Blogger 1 and 2 blog/review Blogger3's site with his anchor text.

    ... and so on.

Expected Result: Each site gets more backlinks with their anchor text, which should help Google rankings. We all get more visitors, more people looking at content. Maybe we end up deciding to subscribe to each other's feeds...

    Second Way:
Pretty much the same as the first, except you don't just link to the blog, you link to any other of their sites/companies, etc.

    What do you all think?

We could call it the Carnival of YGGers... :)

I definitely think it is a good idea and something worth starting. Nothing like getting a few more eyes on your blogs and sites!

That's a great idea for smaller blogs trying to get a start - but for blogs that are already netting paid reviews, it starts to not make less sense.

It's still a good way to build back links. I've even seen some of the top bloggers doing it recently. They simply talk about the challenge that was offered to them to do this and then list a bunch of blogs that are all involved and it just keeps going around in a circle and they get 20 - 30 links from quality blogs.

I personally feel like this dilutes a blog's credibility. You start losing the focus of the blog in exchange for reviews of miscellaneous websites (some of which are going to suck). To me it's a sign of the blog just being in it for the AdSense which for some people is fine, but you lose the connection with real readers.

I agree. However, if you are someone who posts a couple of times a day that post would quickly sink and no one would even notice or remember and you would still get the benefit.

For new bloggers who cares just get the links.

Sure, 1 or 2 will sink, but for it to be effective it has to happen MANY times. I think when it gets to the point of actually making a big difference in your rankings you'll have diluted your blog.

People have already started bitching at John Chow about how his blog posts too many paid reviews now and it's just a big advertisement board. Those are PAID, imagine hundreds of free reviews.

Just my personal opinion of course. How about doing something worth mentioning and other blogs in the industry will link to it. That's a quality link you can be proud of. Now that, I like.

Right, I wasn't thinking that the most random blogs would connect with each other. I post about personal finance and am starting to get into web happenings. I wouldn't want to connect with Adorable Cuties (no offense!) because they don't match.

But entrepreneur to entrepreneur? Why not?

If anyone is interested, just leave a comment with your blog, your niche, and I'll make a list.

Hey Kevin, like I mentioned earlier, I wouldn't mind doing this with some related content blogs - young entrepreneurship, dorm room businesses, start up experiences, etc. I know you've got your personal finance blog, so perhaps we can exchange a review? http://www.dorm-room-biz.com
