General Business: Angel Investing

I’m sure we have discussed this a few times and no affirmative action has been taken, but what if we created a small angel investing group, possibly four people in one group who can easily come up with 3k.
Create a web-site similar to (Angel Investors) Granted we’ll be investing peanuts compared to these guys, but I think it will be a kick ass project and quite a learning experience. I have another engineer that would be interest in investing into this project too, so we’ll need two more people.
Any suggestion, comments?

I know some people over at YE were mulling this over awhile ago. Akula over there made a good point about follow-on round difficulties, transparency, etc.
I think it all comes down to scope. What type of business are you trying to build? Are you trying to be on the ground floor of the next Google, or assist in starting up some business that will make a few thousand a month, which you will get some percentage of?
If it's the former than I think that such a venture will be difficult, if not impossible, to manage. Worse yet, that type of funding is exactly what entrepreneurs don't need - they connected money that will get them to the next level. Dollars is one thing, profile and reach is another.
If you're looking to do the latter, I think something like this could be viable, it all depends on how it is implemented.
Lastly, I'd suggest you check out Cambrian House and their model. It's quite interesting, especially version 2. I think that's an even more powerful model than angel investing, but is as of yet unproven.

I don't know that I would want to go into business with anyone from YE.
Nothing personal but it just seems that the type of people that hang out there aren't experienced or knowledgeable. I'm sure there are a few there but they are few and far between.

I agree with you both to a certain extent, I would consider three to four YE members to have an outstanding reputation.
In any case, I'm not here to have a pissing match, YGG far exceeds YE on many levels.
What I do want to talk about is Creating an Angel Investor group.
Does anyone have suggestions on how to restructure the commonly used Angel Investor Groups?
