Just remember to lean backward more often than forward. Much less painful. :)

Took two spills on the mountain in the first 1.5 seconds. Saw my experienced friends tapping their feet. Went back, rented ski's, tore the mountain up. Operation: Success.

Even though it's a hit to one's pride I think taking a 30 minute lesson is a great investment.
I did it when I learned to ski and it had me up and running in no time.
I didn't do it when I learned to board and it took me 3 visits to the mountain and an extremely sore butt to finally start cruisin.
Don't give up.

I think I'm going to just take it up next year at the beginning of the season, and yeah, I'm definitely going to get lessons because at least then the guy tapping his feet in frustration at my ass-sliding is getting paid to do so.

Yeah good point. If he doesn't like tapping his feet then he can not get paid. Nice.
To be honest I like skiing and snowboarding, which is cultural not ok, but haven't used skiis for quite a while.
I can't wait to get to the mountains and board. It's been almost 2 years.
