This idea has struck me before, and I've actually posted a theories post here on YGG a long time back. I've been toying with the idea of starting a blog that is made up of what other people think is going to happen. Could start off niche based about just the internet (nice small niche huh?), and could easily branch out into politics, space travel, time travel...whatever.

The marketing side of it is what I like. I would personally write very few posts, and I'd rely on other ppl's theories to fill my content. The reason they'd write is to, 1. Have an article posted by them online and
    2. I'd offer a backlink to ANY post added to the site.

In return all I'd ask is for the same in return, a simple backlink and their article posted on their site which links to me.

Kinda rambling, what do ya think...theorypad.com?

and after reading my own post i'm thinking that maybe "theory" isnt the best descriptive word. I think theory points towards unproven past events (big bang theory, theory of evolution...etc)

Predictions might be a better word.

predictionpad.com sounds good - not sure if it's available though. Pretty cool idea, the first thing that comes to mind are all the Apple prediction sites so you'd have to stray from just tech or else you'll get lost in the mix.

yeah i figure tech is a nice content filler if need be. I'll let ppl write about whatever they want tho. Want to predict who will win the 2008 Presidential election?...go ahead, but I'd have to only publish the good articles. The if there were a less than good one written on the same subject I'd simply put it in the comments section.

btw - predictionpad is available. How the heck did i miss that? Thanks Eric!

Actually that sounds like an awesome idea SSM. I've got a few theories myself and having them read by a large audience would definitely appeal for me, even if it was for a bit of fun - some of the topics could cause quite a stir if the right audiences were reading it.

As for the domain, I like the ring that predictionpad.com has to it. I would snap it right up if I were you!

I'm trying to think of the best way to describe your idea. Would it be safe to call it "tomorrow's news today"?

Sounds interesting, I'd suggest you combine this with creating your own market at CrowdIQ or a similar site.

I'm interested in predictions, but usually only in quantified terms. I think having analysis/opinion behind prediction markets would be pretty neat.

If you're feeling really ambitious, figure out a way to make a real money site without running afoul of US law.

Thanks for all the input. I'm gonna buy the domain predictionpad.com, and I really like the tag line Travis. If I put a "?" at the end it makes good sense.

    "Tomorrow's New Today?"

jdoc - I'll have to check out that site. Thanks for the link.

Yeah the question mark makes it work. You could do something at the end like X out an ! and then have a ? after it.

Tomorrow's News Today would kind of be like The Onion in that its fabricated, but more of sneak peek into the future, right?

Such an idea would take a LOT of work to not only build, but write for each day. It's a big investment of time, just remember that before you commit to anything.

That's what I am thinking...(posted in the Hosting thread a few mins ago). Reading their site and trying to figure out if it will work with uploadFX because this month there is already a total bandwidth of 110,129.93 MB .

EDIT - i was reading MT's storage at 100GB and not their 1TB of bandwidth...idiot!

I've changed the concept a little. I'm offering linkbacks to any predictions submitted. I ask for nothing in return other than the prediction itself.

btw - YE has provided 4 predictions, YGG 0. Let's not get shut out here guys/gals.
