:) I saw that on Digg today. Spot on.

I think I'll go with the save a couple hundred bucks and not have truckloads of upgrade trouble version.

Bubbly UI and transparent windows aren't enough to make me give the slightest crap about Vista.

If I ever buy another PC I'll have to use it, but I'll never buy the OS itself.

Haha I thought this was going to be a serious question!

I'm sticking with my good ole Windows 2000 Professional until it just gets so bad that I either a.) switch to Ubuntu (running on laptop) or upgrade computers

I've heard the Vista UI is so processor/graphics intense that it's not even worth upgrading even your semi-new computer because it wont make the grade. Isn't that bull shit?! It'll automatically disable the features it can't run because your almost new computer just isn't new enough. What a crock...

I read a post this morning, think it was from Scoble, where he said a reader tried to install Vista via Boot Camp on his Mac. Installation and everything went fine, until he tried to use anything. The speakers, iSight, hardware, pretty much everything, wouldn't work without new drivers, which obviously aren't readily available for Windows.

I run a ton of apps on my PC that there's no question, will either not work or be ridiculously buggy.

Its amazing to truly see the difference between Apple and Microsoft. People go mad for the latest version of OSX. The new features are usually huge and there aren't any issues when upgrading. With new versions of Windows, the only time people cared was when 95 was announced and XP. That's not because of new features, just hopes that some significant bugs would be fixed.

I'm not a anit Microsoft guy but I'm definitely not pro either. I just don't see the need to upgrade my windows version because it runs perfectly fine now. Why would a pay them a couple of hundred dollars for the same thing for just a different graphic experience?

Macs are cool but I'm gonna hold out for a while before I give them a try.

That cartoon was great! As far as Windows goes, I like my, lets call it trial' version of XP Pro. Never had any problems with it and it's pretty easy to navigate. I'm no computer wiz so I could care less about some of the stuff that I don't get.

I wouldn't mind using OSX one day to figure it out...but that'll be the day I snag a Mac I guess.

OS X is so easy to use it's ridiculous. The myths of it being difficult to get the hang of are just that, myths. The learning curve is a day, perhaps 2 if you're knob. And you're right Travis, when Leopard drops I'll have it installed moments later. Plus OS X charges like $100 for the upgrade and they don't require a bunch of BS serial numbers and WGA and all that. That's a pain in the ass.

For what Alex is looking to do (Photoshop, After Effects, etc...) Linux is a no-no. For those apps, Windows is the way to go until you have enough moolah to afford the mutli-thousand dollar license fees for legit software on Macs.

There are just so many 3rd party apps I use with Photoshop and my other workstation tools, I know Vista will be buggy. That and getting new drivers for my two dozen or so peripherals, yeah, I don't want to have to do that for a long time.

    Photoshop isn't free for PC/Mac? Weird...Wonder what world I'm living in :)

After using Photoshop on the Mac I'll never go back. The new PS3 Beta is absolutely phenomenal. I don't know if it'll act the same on Windows when it comes out (is it already out?) but the interface for PS3-Beta is so clean and easy...I'm in love.

I almost didn't bother reading this thread, but since it is an obviously dig at Microsoft I couldn't resist joining the fun. Do any of you fellow mac users get sick of all the mac vs pc comparison these days? You can talk all day long about cool stuff macs can do but I've found the only way to actually get through to blind windows users is to show them a demo in person.

Yeah, you can talk all day long but it doesn't cut any shit until they actually use it. I was the same way. Avid Windows user for 12+ years and then spent about 15 minutes with a MacBook at CompUSA and it's been a fiery love affair ever since.

I was going to write an Entreprenews post about this, but I'll just post it here because this has become a smack Microsoft discussion.

Their Zune, the mp3 player that they said would kill the iPod, has just reported a $289 million loss for the quarter in their consumer entertainment and devices unit.

It'll only be months until you find Zunes in the clearance bin at Wal-Mart.

Here's a video of Ballmer laughing at the iPhone. Its a shame that loyalty to your company can make you so blind to reality.

I have a feeling we're going to start seeing a lot more Mac users in the future. For starters, most software is compatible with Mac now days. People LOVE the UI, it's so damn simple and is integrated so well with the hardware for smooth operation.

When people have to throw down the money for a new Windows upgrade, I think people will be tempted to hit the Mac button.

My parents next system? A mac. My uncles next system? A mac. My cousins next system? A mac. All of them soon-to-be ex-Windows users. So long to Longhorn.

about travis asking why i will be building a computer like that... its very simple... because i can, haha.

And to the comparison between photoshop on Mac vs PC, i personally like it better on PC, it just flows better.

And about the driver compatibility problems. All the parts will be new, the only thing that wont be is my printer, my 20" Cinema display, and my 17"secondary monitor. So drivers wont be a hassel.

But next year, i will probably settle down and buy an Intel Macbook.
And get used to OS X ?leopard? it is?
