I decided to release a clean and simple Wordpress theme out to the public. If you're looking for something to spruce up the look of your blog... look no further:
http://www.kineda.com/akon/Enjoy!
-
I like it. Clean, simple, yet has all the essentials.
-
He's alive!
And I like it...
-
haha thanks guys.. yes.. i'm alive and kickin! :D
-
Smack that, all on my blog. Smack that, give me some more.
Great job. Me likes, me likes.
-
Lol Travis.
A bit of controversy - check out Brian's post. He thinks that the Akon wordpress theme looks a little like Chris Pearson's Cutline theme - which is sort of does...
Is this supposed to be like that? Or taken and modified a bit and claimed as your own?
-
Uh-oh... :\
-
I saw that last night as well. With the large title, header image, and black on white minimalistic style, it does resemble cutline a bit, but it is far from a clone or hack.
There were tons of sites before cutline that look just like it does now. For Brian to jump all over Terry, mainly because he works with Chris Pearson, that's not cool.
It's a theme for a blog. I've seen work in the past that's resembled mine, and seen many others go ape shit as well, but creatives really need to get over themselves. If a piece of work resembles yours take it as a compliment. I'm sure as hell if I were to dig into every piece of work there'd be an eerily similar source of inspiration before it.
-
Who give's a rats ass anyway...like Travis said, everything is inspired by something else - no use getting your panties in a bunch.
-
Yeah you're right - it was a bit out of order for Brian to go all out against Terry, and his readers joined with him. There was a similar situation like this where Chris Pearson also got involved and posted it on his blog. But I think in that case it was someone over at b5media who had completely ripped off CopyBlogger.
In that case Brian was probably pissed because he paid Chris for his site and he rightly felt it unjust for someone to rip it off without paying.
In this example, I think Brian got a bit carried away because the CSS doesn't look directly grabbed.
-
If someone takes everything from your site and calls it their own, yeah, that's a problem. Tear them a new.............
But this wasn't that.
I remember when Sean from Third & Grand, who we interviewed, used a similar style for some icons to another site. They ate him up. It was ridiculous.
-
Speaking of Sean, have you talked to him lately? He seemed like a cool guy - I'd be interested in getting an update on how Third & Grand has been doing.
-
I haven't spoken to him in a couple months. I was getting a quote from him for a project that's now on hold for a few months, and our communication stopped there.
It seems Brandon has taken over all the for-hire projects any of us would have wanted to hire Sean or any other developers for. lol
-
Am I missing something? I don't really see the similarity other than the white background... The general text color scheme is different, the layout for the navigation on the right-hand side is different, and the separation bars are different.
Most blogs feature the articles, comment count, and time on the left hand side, so that's nothing new...
Are we purely talking about font / font size? What's the similarity?
-
rdewey -- well the header looks similar too. Large font + spacing + large header image (770x140 pixels vs 900x150px). Other than that, not much. The sidebars are different... the color for some of the links is the same, but good grief?
-
I must admit I saw Cutline when I first saw it too. But big deal?
Sean from Third and Grand Interview
An update would be nice, he does great work.
-
Thought I'd throw in a link to a real case of plagerism. PR Blogger just got ripped-off.
-
Thanks guys for understanding and backing me up. I'd never use anyone elses code or design. :)
Btw. I just added YGG to my essential tools for bloggers list.

That's fantastic, thank you!!!
-
Awesome! Thanks Terry.
-
I'm going to use this theme for my new predictionpad.com , we'll see how it goes.
-
Does anyone know how to go about changing the head image to stay as the night city lights? The image changes on created pages, and post specific pages.
-
SSM depends on how the author has integrated it. Go to "Presentation" -> "Theme Editor"
Then check the header.php file. You should find something in the header that sends images to the header "header_1" etc. If you see more than 1 number, you can change it so they all say the same thing.
-
KMulligan - like a charm. Just changed all the non "1" values to "1" and it worked.
-
Does anyone know why the sidebar suddenly went below all of my content? Is the content too wide? If so, how do I make it narrower?
-
Something should keep track of originality. Seems like it's a problem, all this ripping.
Someone should create a database like website for original creative works. It can be called Source of Originality. Just an idea.

I figured it out. Travis's post had a link to an article in it that wouldn't auto text wrap and was making the content too wide which pushed my sidebar to the bottom. All fixed now.
Also, been getting in a few comments a day! Had 4 by the time I woke up this morning. 3 of which are being published. 1 of which was a straight plug for his website.
