Hey guys. This question is especially geared towards Eric and Travis but for anyone else who uses Vanilla forums please help!

I made the switch from PHPBB to Vanilla for my Blogtrepreneur Forum and at the moment the place is looking a bit bare - I know I need to add some posts.

But what are the best mods for me to download? Which ones have you got installed here at YGG? What's the best measure to prevent spammers? Do you have to manually accept entry to people each day? How can I customise my own header?

    Thanks in advance.

Here are some of the better extensions we use:

Account Pictures 1.1 Maurice Krijtenberg www.krijtenberg.nl
Allows users to upload their icon and account picture to their profile.

    Add Comments 1.0 Mark O'Sullivan lussumo.com/docs
Adds the "Add Comments" form to the page for unauthenticated users, along with a username and password input, allowing users who have not yet signed in to do so and post a message at the same time.

    Discussion Filters 2.0 Mark O'Sullivan lussumo.com/docs
Adds links to the control panel which allow users to filter the discussion list (or search results) to user-centric data like "Bookmarked Discussions", "Your Discussions", "Whispered Discussions", and "Whispered Comments".

    Google Analytics 1.2 dinoboff / ithcy lussumo.com/community/discussion/3507

    Html Formatter 1.7.2 SirNotAppearingOnThisForum lussumo.com/docs

    LiveSearch 1.1 Maurice Krijtenberg www.krijtenberg.nl
    Add LiveSearch to the panel

    Notify 0.2 Andreas Hutstein mail@hutstein.de
An extension, that enables users to subscribe to the complete forum, categories or specific discussions, to be notified about new posts

    Preview Post 2.1 SirNotAppearingOnThisForum lussumo.com/addons

Allows users to view a preview of what their post will look like.

Quick Whisper 1.0 Adam Atlas lussumo.com/addons

Adds a link to each comment which adds the commenter's username to the "whisper to" box in the new comment form.

    Forced BBCode 0.1.0 by chuyskywalker
This extension will lock your forums to BBCode. Install just this formatter extension and the text option goes away. Note: I haven't tried it with HTML or other formatters installed, however, so that may fubar things up a bit if you do.

    Quotations 1.6 Joel Bernstein lussumo.com/community/discussion/2069
Adds a quote button to every post

Who's Online 1.1 David Knowles, Julien Cassignol, Michael Schieben www.thirty5.net/code/vanilla/whosonline
Adds a "who's online" list to the panel.

When it comes to preventing spammers, by default, you have to approve an application for membership. While doing so you can see if they're legit or their user name is Vioxx123.

If you think you'll have a huge amount of applicants, you can set it to auto-approval in your settings.

We're usually able to approve applicants at YGG within minutes or hours depending how close Eric or I are to our computers. We've yet to have a single spam message on YGG because of that.

For your theme and it's default bareness, here are a few themes that'll spice it up a bit to begin with, then go in and customize the header graphic and whatnot in the css.

    BlackDiamond
    Dizzy
    Jaws
    Scene
    Soul-Scape
    VaneaBlack
    YH Beta

I hope all these links help you get the ball rolling.

There are currently two Advertise nav buttons on your homepage which are bumping everything down, in case you haven't noticed.

Let us know when you're officially launching your forum and have it as you wish, I'll definitely join and try and contribute when I can.

    Hi Travis.

Thanks a lot for all those extensions. I've downloaded and installed all of them. I also installed a new theme - which is OK, and I had to customise a few PNG's but I couldn't manage to get my own custom header in - I just had to mess with some colours.

Also the Account Pictures extension doesn't work and I don't have a clue what to do with that. Other than that everything's good in the hood - but if you have some spare time, do you think you could help me with those 2 issues? I have a custom forum header but don't know how to implement it. I could send you the files if you've got time.

Oh yeah and thanks with the Advertise thing on my site - I've got a real problem with my computer. Internet Explorer doesn't work altogether and that only the 2nd advertise button was showing up for me, so everything displayed perfect. I know there's something wrong as well because the ads at Problogger and Lifehacker don't show up and there's loads of other little problems that happen.

I've upgraded to the latest Firefox versions but still no luck - never mind, but it just means that its a problem when trying to make stuff look good for all users.

Thanks again for your help mate.
