Hey guys,
I finally applied to universities here in Toronto, Canada, (North Pole to some of you). I have applied to Radio and Television, and Advertising.
If anyone has any ideas to help make my portfolio or video reel stand out let me know.
I really want to go to the Radio and Television program.
AHHH. I'm freaking out...TRAVIS GIVE ME IDEAS. I KNOW YOU HAVE TONNES!thanks.

I dont actually have anything put together. Im battling with my teachers at the moment. I have a Corporate Identity Project (Re-branding Shakespeare Theatre Company) and Personal Identity Projects, as well as watercolor and life drawing (because its part of my course). Ill try to have a PDF by Monday.
Thanks.

Most universities and colleges don't require a knockout portfolio, I mean, that's what you're going there to learn how to make.
If it is a requirement for admission, you should still try to have somewhere in the area of 8 pieces in your book/reel.
Send me everything you've got, I'll critique it and help you prep it for presentation.
What schools are you applying to?

Ryerson Radio and Television
OCAD Creative Advertising
Ryerson Film Studies
Humber Bachelor of Creative Advertising
Humber Advertising and Graphics
Humber Television and Film -
Make OCAD your number 1 if you're interested in a broad spectrum of creative, not specifically televison post-production. OCAD is the best in Ontario for advertising studies.
Humber's number 2 for advertising.
If you want to focus on the creative process of writing for radio and TV go to Ryerson.
If you want to learn the technical side of television and film development go to Humber for that program.

I've been hearing alot about how OCAD's program isnt that great. But location wise its better than humber. So that order is my order of applications. TV and Radio is my first choice because its the only fully HD studio in canada for educational studies, but the competition is INSANE! so thats why... i gotta "bust my balls" to try to get in.
If i do go to humber... ill end up with fry! do you have his contact? ive been sending him email to his mclellan email...and hes probably hasnt received any of them. -
I haven't spoken to him in nearly a year. Just lost contact with him. At that time, he was no longer working for them so I don't think he'd reply to e-mail at that address.
Chances are he's back at Humber.
I'm not sure who you've heard bad things from about OCAD. Are they the best ad program out there? No. Miami Ad School, Creative Circus, and Brainco are the best. But they're in the states and will set you back at least $50,000 when all's said and done.
OCAD is the best in Ontario and maybe even Canada as a whole. Their main benefit is that every Toronto agency thinks they're the best and will put you at the front of the application line with OCAD stamped on your book.
They also have some great teachers there that are in their prime, like Christina Yu, a graduate of OCAD who is a CD at Lowe Roche and I believe is still in her late 20s.

Well then, if i don't get into R&T;, Ill take on OCAD. We'll see how things go. I will send you a pdf of my corporate identity stuff. My critic and final assessment for it are on Tuesday. So you if have any changes or ideas. Please let me know.
