I've been working on a deal to aquire a few websites from a YE moderator that I am thinking about flipping (well flipping at least two of them for cheap). Just sent the paypal, waiting for the URL passwords and usernames.
For $150 total I am getting :
www.uploadFX.com
www.easyforexinfo.com
www.triprofit.comOnly interest is keeping and building up uploadFX.com...the other two were just included in the deal. Let me know what you think about uploadFX. It's a "keep it simple" design/interface allowing up to 500mb uploads. Claims where that the owner was making around $30-45/mo on adsense. Hopefully I can get my money back quickly. Also, 10 months of 750gb/mo hosting has been included.
-
I would be interested in www.easyforexinfo.com . Contact me and we can discuss a fair price.

That's pretty cool. I've been thinking of investing in established websites too. Let me know how it goes for you.
BTW, if any of you know people selling established sites with current revenue, big or small, let me know.
-
Anyone interested in getting a group together to start an investment group in online property? I think 2007 is going to blow up.
General idea.
Everyone involved would have equal shares of the company and invest an equal amount of startup money.
Then we divide up work roles, invest in larger more targeted website that we wouldn't normally be able to afford otherwise and split the profits.
-
That sounds like a fabulous idea. I can put up a few thousand to start if we go with it. I've seen some good ones for sale lately and as long as it pencils right, I think it's a pretty sound investment.

Eric,
What's your number we should talk about the prospects.

Where do you go shopping for websites like these?I'mRoss HillfromThrive Web Marketing.
I found the sites I bought at youngentrepreneur.com ...
Also, I like the investing group idea, however I think it should model the investing strategy more. Not everyone HAS to commit equal amouts. You get the percentage ownership of what you paid into it, and thus you get the percentage of profits based directly on your ownership percentage. I say this because I would love to invest some money but I am hardly liquid and cannot commit even into the thousands at some times. Let me know what you think.

Online property hey???
Can you give me a little more info on what you are thinking?

The best place is Sitepoint's Marketplace. Here's their Established Sites For Sale category.
-
Oh, and I might be interested in joining your online investment group. If I'm too busy to join I wouldn't mind providing some free consultation when I can.
-
I've been browsing that lately, it's been rubbish for the past few days, but it's one of the most known places to pick sites up. You have to act fast when the good ones are posted though.
-
I'd definitely be interested, maybe we can have a YGG chat meeting sometime next week? I'm out of town until at least Tuesday, maybe Wednesday. I might be available in the evenings (Mountain Time).
-
Just finished converting the adsense on uploadFX to my account. Now I gotta tackle easyforexinfo
-
I think that uploadFX will do pretty good with enough work to get it out there.
I was thinking about buying such a site and targeting a niche. RapidShare and YouSendIt have built gigantic businesses on the free file host model.
-
yeah uploadFX was the major reason for the purchase. I've already moved a couple things around but really havent had the time to sit down and decide where I want to go with it. But I agree that targeting a niche at first is going to be an easy way to gain some attention.

(I know it's an older thread)
I'm interested in the prospect of buying up a few smaller established websites as well.
How does the due dilligence process work on something like this? Is there any proof what the previous adsense revenue was?
$150 for a monthly revenue of $40 is pretty nuts, as these things go.
That's an estimated $480/year for a $150 investment. In terms of purchase price as a multiple of earnings, that's....uh....very attractive.
-
You simply ask for screenshots of the reports from previous months. At least, that's what I see most commonly.
-
Yep screenshots are what you go by. If they don't want to produce multiple months worth of evidence then I'd assume it's a shady deal.

Having never managed/owned a website before, I worry somewhat about purchasing one and then having it trail off in popularity (and revenue) before I get up to speed in maintaining it.
How "hands off" are these things? I imagine less so than, say, a security, but likely much more so than a brick-and-mortar business or a piece of real estate.
-
Interested in my sites? :)

^^
It looks like those might require more "building up" than I'd want to do.I'd rather spend $500 on something with fairly stable revenue than $125 for something that has the potential to create stable revenue.
I'm not looking at a website purchase so much as a business to run, I'm just trying to buy cash flows.
I know there will be *some* maintenance required, but I'm not looking for a "fixer upper" per se.
I also don't know a whole helluva lot about valuing websites from the standpoint of if the revenue has averaged "x", what are the possible threats to those cash flows? What could cause them to trail off, etc...?
-
WanganRunner - Dont go with that mentality all the time. If you arent willing to build, you arent an entrepreneur. If it's just a current strategy to get some more revenue going via purchasing established revenue sites...thats a different story.

I suppose I am willing to tinker with it somewhat, but in reality, this is a "use of cash" generated by my other ventures.
If I'm going to make, say, $5,000 from parting out an old Corvette or Jaguar or something, I'd rather put some of that into websites that are returning 50%/year in Adsense Revenue than put it into a 5%/year savings account. (obviously involves more risk)
I'm aware that the websites will require more personal involvement than a savings account would, but ultimately, it's an investment vehicle for me, like buying a bond.
I am finding some profitable sites for sale, but most are just domains. I understand that there are profits to be made in domain name trading as well, but that strikes me as more of a speculative endeavor.
