The YGG family gets first dibs on my new site and have the opportunity to share some love or tear me a new one before anyone else.

I love advertising and read over 200 rss feeds a day. I figured there might be a few other ad nuts out there like me, who might be interested in seeing the best of the best all in one spot.

So I created The Ad Feed. It features the latest news and posts from the biggest advertising sites and blogs on the net, as well as the latest creative print, tv, and websites.

I'd love to hear what you guys and gals think and if you run into any problems with the site.

I hope you don't mind the few pay per click Adbrite units I squeezed in. I'd like to eventually get some industry events to advertise on the site once I build enough traffic. Until then, hopefully a few clicks will help me improve it and stay above water.

I'll be adding a blog, creative submission page, and a few other features over the next few weeks.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks everyone. I'm working on a couple upgrades already and have to send out a few dozen intro e-mails ASAP. Since I haven't had the time to get my OEPB blog up, I'm going to document my process and progress in the YGG Blog.

Here's a bit of an update until I have the time to write some blog posts. I did my first marketing throughout last night. Sent e-mails to all the blogs I love and so far the response has been great. I'm link swapping and taking names. Boom shacka lacka.

I think your site looks great. You should try and get it submitted to some fo the web 2.0 directories.

    www.go2web20.net

The one thing that needs some rethinking is your section titles. I think some of it is vocabulary specific to the ad industry. If you want more generalized traffic you want to make the section titles more generic of at least explain what they are. example PSFK.

The other section titles I get but am not sure what they are referring to so a short definition or summary might be helpful if you're not using self-explaining names like "sports".

Otherwise the site is great. Best of Luck.

Other than Print Ads, TV Spots, Podcasts, and Daily Quote, the titles are the actual titles of the site from which the content is fed. I definitely would love to get some huge traffic numbers, but if that means I have to include general content that isn't of interest to adfolk I just can't do it.

But I will definitely submit the site to go2web20 as I've already sent it to over a dozen different CSS galleries.

Once I add the blog and a few other features I'm thinking about, it should help in the SEO and in having a 2-way conversation.

    travis,

I understand that you want to get a lot of traffic but you need to stay true to your core audience.

I think that you can make your website "idiot" friendly while still staying true to your core audience. Simply just add some question mark links next to the names thath would answer "idiot" questions about what they are. You could also just put a short summary in parenthesis next to the name.

I think that there are a lot of ad hacks who are interested in ad stuff but who are not necesarrily adfolk.

Don't forget the important about us and contact page. I'm sure this site will be a great networking tool as well.

    Anyway best of luck.

I agree...I'm interested in advertising but I'm not an industry guy. I'm still a customer though, someone who's going to put money in your pocket by accidentally clicking links (lol). Although I'm not bothered by the off-beat headlines

    letutor,
I think I may have said it wrong, but I agree with you. My core audience is creatives and suits that work in the advertising or marketing industry.

I may be able to add a roll-over to each of the titles that has "Visit" or something pop up next to the site's titles or a hover box like the images do with a very brief description. This'll point out that the titles are actual sites a little better and encourage them to visit it. What do you think?

And the about us, contact, etc... pages are coming soon. I have to apply my stylesheet to a Wordpress installation and I'll be good to go.

    Thanks for the feedback guys.

As far as I am aware it is just a bunch of rss readers in a page - and you would want some caching in there. I just set up an rss feed on www.coverhunt.com to get the charts and it wasn't too hard. Ideas?

    Ross,
That's my question. What code is used to insert it into the page? And how do you keep it from doing all of the text of each entry (like on TheAdFeed and Popurls where it just does the titles)?

    Thanks!

Edit: I just discovered RSS to Javascript... going to try that. Other options welcome.

I just emailed you the rss reader code I use at www.coverhunt.com - I only pull out the song, artist and thumbnail url instead of printing the entire contents of the xml. If you know php you should be able to work it out but otherwise it might be a bit tricky. Have fun.

    Well what do you know?

If you don't know a language maybe you should find a programmer :)

PS Javascript won't be read by the search engines so I hope you are not using the Javascript code for any search engine optimisation reasons.
