Is anyone expierenced in building online databases? We will be in the market soon for a programmer that can build us a database that connects all of our suppliers and inputs there information (inventory, etc.) into a central database of ours so that we can access the info and download in any format we need. All of our suppliers will connect to our databse directly via XML or FTP. This is all i can say as i have no expierence in this.

    Thanks!

You might want to start by doing some research and see if you can find similar proposals out there on the internet so you can udnerstand the basics....

That way when you find a programmer/potential company you can at least speak to what they're talking bout as opposed to not having a clue.

You may also want to submit a request on eLance and peruse the responses you get to get an idea.

    Try: rentacoder.com

I'm currently working with a coder there and seems to be working out pretty well.

It takes a little longer than a normal project but I'm saving a ton of money and getting an experienced coder.

    Sorry for the slow response.

It takes more time because communication is done mainly through email which has it's obvious limitations when explaining something in detail.

Yes my coder is a PHP guy. You can find coders for anything there. There are thousands of coders who are all rated and their customers leave comments. Just like an ebay trust system. I did have some initial problems getting things figured out but overall it's been a good experience and it is saving me thousands of dollars.

You might also try Craigslist.org. It works especially well if you're located in the Bay Area or one of the larger Metropolitan cities.
