I'm moving quick on www.TheReservoirBlogs.com as I just bought the domain last night and just posted the project on elance. And I even plugged YGG in my elance post saying I like the layout and Vanilla 1.0 utilized.
I'm hoping to keep this around $500 because it's a pretty simple layout/template I am looking to use and I can do most of my own graphics work.

Here's the link. Should I mention anything else?

Two bids so far, $350, $470....the higher bidder actually has some better work it looks like and more refs.

Are you looking to be strictly a forum, or have a blog, forum, etc...? If you're going to have multiple sections avoid going the iframe route like we did because it kills you in search engines and linkage. The design samples you provided, is that the design of the site or a sample you grabbed from somewhere else?

Travis - You are a little over my head there??? I'm looking for basically what we are typing in right now (forum). I really dont think I will need a commentable blog section, but I would like sections such as YGG has at the top that allows for news/polls/whatever.
A blog would be basically me starting a new comment every so often and then ppl commenting on that right? Because that isnt what I want. I want all members to be able to start any discussion they would like and anyone to be able to comment on those.
As for the design I posted on elance...that was a template I just snagged up from site. It actually looks pretty cool and somewhat fitting to ReservoirDogs/Blogs.

From what you describe, you're somewhat looking for a platform that doesn't exist, at the moment at least (I'm working on it in the back of my mind). Some forum apps allow you to integrate different extensions and mods to add polling features and announcements, etc... But there isn't an attractive package at this time. Your best bet might be looking at a Content Management System like Drupal or Joomla. Even vBulletin allows you to add some additional plug-ins, but it's core function is a forum, not a portal.
You mentioned having separate sections like our Entreprenews, weekly poll, etc... and I wouldn't recommend them for the concept of your site. 1) They take a lot of time to manage, 2) You need a helluva lot more than $500 to build all of those sections, 3) You can probably get buy just fine with a forum.
So I'd say either go strictly with a forum app like Vanilla or phpBB and make your Elance project be the customization/design of such a forum. Or create a blog somewhat like The Consumerist and have a forum as well where the public can vent.

Thanks for the heads up on the time management of what I was describing. I'll poke around over at the consumerist and see if I like that.

Ok after viewing the consumerist I got an idea. What do you think of a site that is split in two at the homepage. Half conscerning Corporate Issues and the other half Personal Issues (like my original idea of the ebay/forum scammers). I'm not saying that I would be doing things just like the consumerist but I dont see why I should only concentrate on Personal Issues.
I'm still debating if I should go with a commentalbe blog style or a traditional forum style. The advantage I see with forums is that I can easily add more sections. Then again you can probably do that with a blog too. Who knows?
It's going to come down to which one would potentially net me more money.

Now that I think of it, a forum might not be the ideal format for your idea. I personally have ranted and complained about products and companies. To my recollection, each of those bitching sessions was done anonymously.
So what might work for you best and get you the most traffic is something like Group Hug. GH is an outpost for anonymous online confessions. Apply that approach to corporate life and consumer products and you might have a big hit.

Well ranting and complaining about products really isnt my focus for ReservoirBlogs.com. The original plan was to fix the problem of people getting screwed on internet transactions. Although, all of this is helping me better refine what it is that I am looking to do.

Either way, that domain might limit you. Whether it's product or internet transaction rants, thereservoirblogs doesn't tie into it too good. It's a great domain but might not be the best for such a site. So be open to coming up with a name that ties in a little better once you decide on the concept.
