Can You See Me Now?

Everything from learning another language, to classes to meetings are being done via the Internet. So why not a conference? Video conferencing has been around since the 1960′s World Fair. It has been utilized only among large companies for the most part. But what about the beginning entrepreneur? What is the great importance of this method of communication? What could be used to aid in the commercialization of this service? These question plague the buzzing minds of many but solutions are plenty.
Sometimes people do not have the means to meet with clients face to face. Especially when you are a beginning Entrepreneur or if your company is web based. The next best thing would be a video conference. This still allows for a more personal way of communicating without breaking the bank.
Add-on web cams have been the main source of many video conferences for many years now. The only down side is that most of us have no open USB ports for this addition. Any many of these devices are pretty laggy and has a low resolution and almost makes it not worth the trouble. For the record there are good ones out there. I just have never been a web cam type person.
The addition of web cams in monitors or laptops made it easier to use the video conference feature. No worries of placement and space issues. This brought about such services as Skype which is used by millions across the world. This kind of brought the idea of video calling over regular calls to mainstream. The downside to this feature is that although laptops maybe portable they don’t provide for maximum portability. And for the young Entrepreneur this just doesn’t cut it!
Enter the smartphone’s front facing camera. This idea was essentially a must with the progression of our handheld friends. Although this feature has been around for awhile in other countries and via Nokia’s mobile service it was brought to mobile mainstream by the iPhone 4′s FaceTime feature. This doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s the best available. There our other smartphones that could arguably be better but lack the media push needed to back it’s quality. The HTC Evo and Nokia N8 both have the video calling feature and sport cameras with higher pixels. So to each it’s own.
Now we’re talking technology! You would think that since there are other phones that have the video conferencing capability that we all would be able to chat amongst each other. Well you’d be incorrect! This feature seems to be device specific with the iPhone 4 and FaceTime and the HTC Evo with Qik. Then comes along apps that connect all of these smartphones. Fring is that very app. Although some argue that the video quality isn’t as good as each devices native app, it works. So now you’re able to chat with others that might have opposing smartphone views as yourself. This allows for a drop of the hat video conferencing on the go.
I hope you young Entrepreneurs get something from this post.
It’s more Than amazing, it’s technology…
These smart phones are getting ridiculous….is what I first thought but honestly I use my Iphone 3g to the fullest. I don’t know how I lived without it. Im looking to upgrade to the iphone4 soon and I’m sure i’ll be taking advantage of its dual cameras. Nice blog
