So Are You Ready to Go Solo?

At some point in your life, you may find that you would like to go out on your own. However, it’s not always something that you can do on a whim. You may even feel afraid of doing it too. But, if it’s something that you really want to do, then you’ll never stop thinking about it unless you start making it happen.

Whether you like the idea of going freelance or starting your own business, you’ll want to start putting the wheels in motion as soon as you can. It’s important to be prepared, and while you may never feel completely ready, it’s nice to understand roughly what it takes. So whether you’re thinking about doing this now or whether you’re planning it for the future, here’s what you need to do.

Mastering Your Craft

To begin with, you’ll want to make sure that you’re a master at what you do. If you feel inadequate, it’s hard to stay motivated. You need to absolutely believe in yourself as a freelancer. Maybe you take a class at the University of Alabama Birmingham or you just practice your craft every single day? No matter what it is that you need to do, work on it. Because you need a lot of self-belief to step from being employed to going out on your own.

Selling Yourself

Next up, you need to make sure that you’re selling yourself as much as you can. Because you have to pitch in order to get the work that you want. And it can be really intimidating, but once you start and you’ve done it that one time, you’ll find that it gets easier and easier.

Putting Yourself out There

As a step on from that, you’ll want to get more comfortable with putting yourself out there. You need to market yourself or our company, and promote what you do too. But when you’re passionate about what you do, it becomes fun to do this.

Connecting with Others

From here, you’re also going to want to make sure that you’re networking with other freelancers. It’s a lonely life when you’re freelance. But you can really look to overcome that when you meet others. Not only that, but you may find that different opportunities come your way too. That you’re able to open new doors, learn a lot, and your career progresses because of it.

Getting Competitive

Finally, you need to make sure that you’ve got some drive or aggression in you somewhere. Because you need to get competitive. And not with anybody else – it’s not a game. But with yourself. Freelance life can be tough. You have to keep yourself motivated and one way to do that is to be competitive with yourself. To set yourself goals and targets, and to then see if you can start taking this to levels you’ve only ever dreamt of.

A pretty interesting post, huh?
