We found that the best way to start our business was to build a base of really happy clients. We did things at or below cost for many of our first projects in order to build a referral base and portfolio. This approach obviously isn't for everyone, but it helped us start our business with absolutely no hard capital, loans, or debt whatsoever!

When first starting out everyone wants to know how to fund their business. Some businesses have little overhead and some have a substantial amount. What is the process you used to fund your startup and give a little information about how you went about it if possible

Yeah car biz is going good. Wish I could fully support myself off of it. We started with appx $15k in inventory ($2500-5000 price range vehicles). At the $25k point I'll probably be able to devote a lot more time to it as more cars roll in and roll out...getting there. Might seek out a private investor to get there sooner.

Chosen is a company I started in July of 2008, starting out as a Web Design and Development company. Since then, Chosen has grown to a larger scope of Online Business Development and Marketing, usually using a website as a base, but consulting the company to integrate web technologies into their offline business.

Take a look at our website and give me some feedback: http://bychosen.com

@awild: Nice, I definitely would be interested to talk to him, but my time is scarce these days.. any way you could just pass this thread on to him? That would help answer questions for anyone who asks in the future.

So I used to be "SSM" here years ago. Was very active and recently came back to see what it was like. But the board is dead? 1 post? Not sure what happened, anyone fill me in?

Also, in the past couple years I've done a lot in terms of my goals. I am finally an owner of a vehicle dealership "Specialized Motorsport LLC" woop woop! I'm about 3 months in thus far and selling as many cars as I can afford to hold in my inventory. Also, I got some "side" projects I'm working on. I wrote a reality show treatment and posted it on inktip.com for Hollywood to view (dont worry my work is registered with the WGA). It's called "Unofficial Record Breakers" and hopefully you will see it on TV one day.

You're best bet is to talk to a tax professional on this one. I'm a Michigan man myself and can give you a number/email of the guy I use. Very good guy, fresh legs at 28 years old CPA and knows his stuff...if he doesnt know, he finds out.

I have a general understanding of business in the states with DBA's (Doing Business As), LLC's (Limited Liability Contract) and Corporations, but how does this work on an international scale? Here's my example specifically:

I have an LLC for by business Chosen (bychosen.com) registered in Lansing, MI, USA. If I were to form a partnership with another business, say a marketing company that was in another country like Mexico or Canada, what legal actions would be required? What do taxes look like an international level? Does an LLC carry any weight outside of the US?
