How many of you Joost invitees are actually still using it?

Joost

Nearly two months ago, we offered Joost invites to anyone that wanted one. Nearly 200 comments were posted and well over 100 invites were sent out.

My initial experience with Joost was interesting, and I was taken back by the hype. But I haven’t used it since then and don’t really care.

So I’m wondering, for anyone that got an invite…….do you use still Joost and how often?

I still use it… To be honest, I like it more than YouTube in terms of entertainment. If I’m looking for a quick video, I’ll search YouTube. If I’m looking for pure entertainment (i.e. TV shows), then Joost it is.

I had an early beta and spent about 5 hours straight watching stuff, then never used it again. Once all the hype came out two months ago I thought I’d have another try but I couldn’t login. I might use it sometime in the future, they were doing a lot of content deals so it has potential to be really good.

I haven’t used it at all, the programming was crap and turned me off. Maybe it’s better now but I don’t know if I care.

Used at begining, and forgout about it …

Like Ross Hill I used it for about 5 hours after installing - watching a documentary about cats and dogs (most interesting) but youtube - despite its lower quality - is much more entertaining.

Yep. Had a bitch of a time installing it on my iMac and then got bored with the content really fast. I guess I’ll give it another try soon but to be honest I didn’t think it was that great.

I wish I could say I’m still on board, but all it does is sit there on my desktop. Maybe it’s about delivering more relevent content (i.e. shorter clips) than it is about delivering the content through a new-ish medium… just a thought.

I agree Andrew. That’s exactly why YouTube is successful…….short clips, on-demand.

Until either every network gets on board, I don’t think on-demand re-runs will take off until everything is available through our cable/satellite boxes.

Every episode, every show, whenever you want. Joost is the first to run at that, but I see the networks doing it themselves 4 or so years from now.

I used it for a few days, but the interface was just too buggy and it discouraged me from using it. This might be caused by Vista, or it could have been the beta software. If it had worked as advertised, I would have used it more. After reading this post, I’ll probably go back and see if there’s an updated version to try.

I do believe an updated version was released in the past couple of weeks. Login at Joost.com, and you should see the download.

For anyone that experienced some bugs, let us know if the updated version helped any.

I also navigated through it for a couple of hours initially but then sort of forgot about it. It didn’t really have any series content that I would be interested in watching consistently. I think it needs better & more content & a simpler way to use it & find what you are looking for.

I downloaded the new version. It seems to be a bit more consistent. The problems I was having were with the video controls not appearing when needed, or not disappearing when not needed.

I still wish there were a way to access all of the controls when not in full screen mode.

Used it just to see what the hype was about, and haven’t used it since.

Well since I run Windows 2000 Pro at home on my desktop, I did jack with Joost. It requires XP. D’oh!

  17.   Andrew Peek said on June 28, 2007

My guess is Sarah McLaughlin (the owner of the lips).

  18.   Travis said on June 28, 2007

    Good guess there, Andrew.

Man that totally ruins it for me. I can’t stand her music. But hey, she’s got great lips.

Stopped using it a few hours later, checked in a few times after and there was never any good content to keep me there.

I was an official Joost beta tester and I had a real problem with the video streaming, lack of content, and of course users. It still remains a great idea for future models but with the lack of content and the streaming quality sucking up resources it doesn’t work for me anymore.

I even beta tested Babelgum which seems to be the same with no social integration and a streamlined interface.

I highly recommend using VeohTV which is my premier media player for videos and bit torrents. Nothing out there right now can touch it.

I’m unable to use it now a days because I’m surrounded by workstations that are running Windows 2003 Server. The problem is that Joost doesn’t run on this platform.

But in the days when I had access to my Windows XP professional powered workstation, I really enjoyed using Joost.

I actually had problems with the streaming since the first day, it was really heavy & slow. I havnt tried it since then…might re-use it within this few days to check if things are getting better.

I watched it for a few hours, than about a month later checked it again for 3-4 minutes. thats all:)

In typical innovator fashion, I used the thing for a week. Then it trickled down to a few days and then I got bored because there wasn’t really much left to watch. I know it was just a beta, but I wish their could be a more continual addition of programming.
